If you’re nervous about being in front of a camera, a mindset shift helps more than any pose ever will.

The Swanner House is honestly the perfect place to get lost in your day. Everything about it feels free, which makes it easy to loosen up a little once you’re settled into the day. The best moments usually happen in-between everything: talking, laughing, little kisses, the biggest hug from your baby niece and nephew who live out of state. Getting swept away in all of these little things for a second instead of thinking about the camera nonstop is what makes for perfect moments.

I can always tell when the nerves have settled and you really start having a good time. There’s no more trying so hard to look good and you start living in the moment. That’s when you get all of these memories to look back on forever 🤍

You’re making your wedding timeline harder than it needs to be.

Not in some big obvious way. It can come from adding one more “quick” moment, letting portraits fall wherever they can fit, assuming everything will move exactly how it does on paper.

Then the day starts and nothing is technically wrong, but it feels tighter than you expected. Like you’re always thinking about what’s next. Moving from one thing to another without much space in between.

What actually shapes the day is how everything is built underneath it. How much time you actually give things, when they happen, what gets prioritized when time starts getting pulled in different directions.

A full day and a rushed day can look almost identical on paper. The difference is usually just a little more room in the right places.

There are a lot of options when you start looking for a wedding photographer! You scroll numerous pages on instagram, swipe through hundreds of videos on TikTok, your friends are sending you links in your group chat… and so quickly you’re overwhelmed trying to figure out how you’ll ever decide which photographer is “right”.

The things that actually make a difference on a wedding day aren’t usually the things that jump right out at you. It’s not the way a person edits, or if they can take a pretty picture. The things that matter are usually much more subtle.

How someone communicates.
How they collaborate either your planner and vendor team.
How they guide you through portraits.
How consistent their work is across an entire wedding day.

Those details shape the experience just as much if not more than the images themselves.

When you’re choosing a wedding photographer, it’s easy to focus on the gallery and the way everything looks when it’s finished. That end result is a direct reflection of how the day as a whole felt for you and why the team you surround yourself with is so important.

You’re choosing:

• the energy around you for the day
• whether you feel like you’re performing all day or living in the moment
• how seamlessly your timeline flows throughout the day and how hiccups are taken care of before you even notice
• awareness and how the details don’t go unnoticed

All of that creates a strong foundation and shapes the experience long before you ever see a final image.

There are so many small moments woven into a wedding day that don’t beg for attention in the moment. Your fingers brushing together while you’re chatting with each other… or a look shared between the two of you when you forget you’re in a room full of people.

Those details might seem subtle in real time, but they’re what hold everything together. They give your gallery its feeling. They connect the portraits to the candids, and the wide shots to the quiet moments, so it all makes sense as one story instead of separate choppy pieces.

As a destination wedding photographer, this is the layer I’m always paying attention to. When you’re on the couch months from now scrolling through your photos, or years down the line turning the pages of your album, those are the parts that make it feel like a memory.

It still blows my mind that this is my job.

I get to be part of some of the most meaningful days in people’s lives, surrounded by the kindest, most creative humans. Clients who feel like friends. Vendors who feel like family. I’ll never take for granted the honor of stepping into your special moments.

Being a destination wedding photographer has taken me across California, the US, and the world capturing moments that are so full of love, emotion, and intention. I don’t just show up with a camera. I get welcomed into the heart of it all, and I get to help tell a story that’ll be held onto forever.

It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to be part of so many special days. So if you’re someone I’ve had the honor of photographing, planning alongside, hugging goodbye at the end of a shoot…thank you. I’ll never stop being grateful for it.
