Parents of protesters: One of the most powerful parts of Saturday’s march was the number of kids and teens who took the mic to call for a peaceful Afghanistan. They were keenly aware of what Kabul’s fall meant for not only their families, but their peers.
“Afghanistan used to be a beautiful place. I want a homeland that I can bring my daughters back to,” said one girl. “My religion gave me freedom but the culture of the Taliban took it away.”

“I am here because I want American people to know what’s happening in Afghanistan. We are concerned for everyone, but especially for women. Imagine- for the past 20 years, women have worked very hard. They’ve gone to school. They’ve gone to college. They’ve become engineers and doctors. Now, they are at home and in hiding. They have no future. The taliban wants women to be covered. To not be seen. They want to make it so that Afghan women don’t exist.”
