I've had a number of people ask how drone mapping works. Multiple overlapping photos in front, back and sides are stitched together to form the 3D maps.

Here is an example of a project I recently flew showing where the drone was for each shot. This one was flown programmed to take about 900 shots, but others have required up to 2,000 individual images to make the 3D maps that allow seeing something on the ground less than a half inch in size from almost 200 feet above ground level (AGL). Due to contractual restraints I cannot tell you where or when or for whom this job was done, but it's a good representation of the sort of work I do at times. Roof inspections, parking lot maintenance... Just a couple of things where you'll hear of 3D modeling created by drone operators like myself.

I launched the drone to do a roof mapping job earlier today. The programming was good, the weather was warm but not scalding with humidity. 591 photos in 36 minutes with one battery change.... It was a really nice property that I'd not been on since I moved here almost 23 years ago...
