Bird banding - a really important, and harmless, way to gather data and trends on our bird buddies.
Pictured is a male black capped chickadee, being measured before having his band placed, and then released again. When this bird is recaptured, or found in another way, the numbers on his band can be put into a database, and the original ba**er will get to see where the bird travelled to! And this is done on all species - from swans to teeeeny tiny hummingbirds.
