The snow-caked trees were out of this world on the top of Street and Nye yesterday before this warmer weather starts to consolidate the snow. No need to fly to Kuusamo Finland to see famous snowy Tykki trees this winter! (Although I will lead a photo tour there next February 2027). The mountains always amaze me, and remind me that the answer is just spending more time outdoors - despite only being a 2.5 hour snowshoe each way with parking lot 10 minutes from my house here in the Adirondack Mountains, it's been 20 years since I was last here.

Patagonia Classics photo tour in 2027 anyone? I've just spent a week on Patagonia mini photo trip with a friend that was filled with epic landscapes that are so easily accessible by car and relatively 'easy' hiking - I'm sure you've seen my daily facebook posts. Here is such a perfect setting I stumbled upon, adjacent to about 5 other compositions on the same small point of land on Lago Pehoe - so many compositions abound! Even though I said I'm winding down my international photo workshop leading, after seeing this place with new perspective after 20 years since last here, I'm really tempted to offer a one-off small-size and value-packed ~9 day photo tour here in Patagonia, in a 1-way itinerary with 3 nights in Torres del Paine, and 3 nights around Fitzroy/Los Glaciares area, starting in Puerto Natales and flying out of El Calafate Argentina, next summer/fall (March-April) 2027. Would anyone be interested? Estimated pricing would be way cheaper than other Patagonia tours, would be in the mid $4000's (exact TBD) for the 8-night/9 day trip, all inclusive incl single room, except airfare, focusing on value-based and practical and location over luxury (there's a huge price range of accommodation options available, I believe in value-based).

Top 123 photos (part II) from the Adirondack Mountains from the year 2025. Happy New Year! See my earlier post from today for part 1, the first 60 images.

2025 found me guiding workshops in the Adirondacks for Muench Workshops for both fall foliage and infrared, and I also solo led photo trips to Finland and Greenland. I've been doing some 'one last' photo tours to some countries, recengently guiding Iceland and Greenland ones in the past year, as I'm winding down the international photography workshops era of my life. 1 more to Faroe Islands this July - I'll guide 1 last week-long trip to Faroe Islands, anyone interested? I hate to lose that part of my identity, but there's seasons in everyone's life. Instead I've been spending more time locally especially at my Jay property development, which is plugging along slowly with highs and lows through this year. Hopefully 2026 is the year where I can really finish some cabin projects and ramp up rentals and facilitate hundreds of families enjoying the Adirondack mountain views from there - rentals at WildernesscapesProperties.com.

I look back at at so many beautiful scenes that was I blessed to be part of in the Adirondack Mountains, through aurora chasing and camping and hiking and guiding and photographing around the beautiful region I call home. It still didn't feel like I got out as much as I wanted to this year as I have alot on my mind, however, this list of photos proves that indeed I made the most of a wonderful year! Facebook only allows 80 photos, so there'll be a part II on New Year's Day, for all 123 photos. This is a subset of over 500 I submit annually to Adirondack Life for their annual calendar - the poor editor having to sort through all those!
Will keep on posting some highlights throughout the new year 2026, as always.

Happy New Year to All!
As we close out 2025, here's an assorted 123 favorite photos from 2025 in the Adirondack Mountains! (I can't just do the top 10, sorry!) (Facebook doesn't allow 123 photos in a single post, so will do a part II). This is a subset of about 400 I submit annually to Adirondack Life for their annual calendar - the poor editor having to sort through all those!

2025 found me guiding workshops in the Adirondacks for Muench Workshops for both fall foliage and infrared, and I also solo led photo trips to Finland and Greenland. I'm wrapping up what are probably my last photo tours to some countries, I've finished Iceland and Greenland ones in the past year, as I'm winding down the international photography workshops era of my life. 1 more to Faroe Islands this July - I'll guide 1 last week-long trip to Faroe Islands, anyone interested? I hate to lose that part of my identity, but there's seasons in everyone's life. Been very hard for me to accept. Instead I've been spending more time locally especially at my Jay property development, which is plugging along slowly with highs and lows through this year. Hopefully 2026 is a year where I can really finish some cabin projects and ramp up rentals and facilitate hundreds of families enjoying the Adirondack mountain views from there.

Will keep on posting some highlights throughout the year - I'm of the Facebook generation, but eventually I need to ramp up the Instagram posts too.

Isn't it wonderful to re-discover a beautiful location super close to home? It's been a beautiful winter, although cold and difficult in some aspects. Today from the Sentinel Wilderness.

5 years ago to the day, I was in Newfoundland for the first time. Now back again, leading a photography tour. Photos from day 0, before the group arrives. Cape Speer lighthouse, and Signal Hill St. Johns, and the rising full moon.

here we go! tonight could be crazy auroras here in the Adirondacks! All the conditions that align for strong geomagnetic conditions are aligned! Be sure to all get out, and stay out! I wont' be available for answering questions, but I recommend the Aurora Hunters New York page, great crowdsourced info and updates by Jeff Nadler and Jenn Zook. Here is Schroon Lake on October 8th.

After the intense red auroras this evening (see previous post), a huge thunderstorm front was moving in from the west over Street and Nye. Here's a huge strike hitting the Indian Pass Brook valley, seen from the Adirondack Loj Road fields.

After hiking up with two cameras and two tripods and camping last night on a mountaintop awaiting the aurora borealis which never appeared, tonight those of us in the Lake Placid region were blessed with a clear weather window between 7:30-9pm before the incoming thunderstorm rolled in. The aurora display erupted very quickly and peaked around 8:00pm, with intense reds both visible to the unaided eye as well as the camera. Aurora chasing is always a fun challenge. For those interested, I recommend you follow the helpful admins and moderators over at Aurora Hunters New York page.
