🎥"Girls Like Girls" is the latest project from cinematographer Sonja Tsypin. The LGBTQ+ coming-of-age romance brings a deeply personal story of identity, self-discovery, and first love to the screen is directed by Hayley Kiyoko and based on her 2023 novel. Camera and lens equipment were supplied by ARRI Rental Canada, including the ALEXA Mini LF.

🎬 After successful screenings at NewFest Pride and Cannes, where it won the Q***r Palm, *Teenage S*x and Death at Camp Miasma* goes on general release on August 7th.

The film follows a young q***r filmmaker hired to revive a cult slasher franchise who becomes obsessed with casting the original "final girl" from the series. What begins as a creative collaboration soon spirals into a surreal, psychosexual journey through horror, desire, and cinematic mythology.

"Working with Andrea, Becky, and Cecilia at ARRI Rental New York was a masterclass in collaborative support. They immediately understood the visual language we were aiming for, specifically the need to protect clean, crispy blacks. Together, we built a beautifully balanced, textured lens package without compromising that foundational contrast.

The real magic came from their creative instincts. They suggested their 80mm HERO LOOK lens and a 65mm Prime DNA lens that we deployed at critical moments to lend a subtle mysticism to the film. The swirling, expressive fall-off of the LOOK and the bespoke character of the DNA gave us the exact optical texture needed to elevate those understated, yet emotional beats. They didn’t just supply gear—they actively helped shape the film's visual identity." When a former science teacher, Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling), wakes up on a spaceship with amnesia, he is forced to team up with an endearing alien to save the world. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and adapted from Andy Weir’s sci-fi bestseller of the same name, “Project Hail Mary” was shot by cinematographer Greig Fraser ACS, ASC, who approached ARRI Rental during the lead-up to the project for assistance in developing a specific visual style.

Selecting the ALEXA 65 as his main camera, Fraser wanted a solution for shooting vertical-squeeze anamorphic in the 65 mm format, utilizing the entire ALEXA 65 sensor to fill the taller IMAX image area by “squeezing in” to create additional height. The outcome of the collaboration was a completely new, custom set of anamorphic lenses that could be mounted sideways on the ALEXA 65, resulting in vertical flare, unique bokeh, and maximum image quality. 👨‍🚀🚀
