Dreaming of the 395... 🏔️☀️

Looking back through some of my favorite frames from Highway 395 today. There’s nothing like that Eastern Sierra light, and honestly, I’m already itching for the next trip out there.

But until I can get back behind the lens in the high desert, I’m spending my "stuck at home" time leveling up my editing game.

If you’re in the same boat and looking to sharpen your skills before your next big trip, the 2026 Photography Path to Mastery just launched. It’s $2,000+ of pro training (masking, light-blending, workflow) for just $78.

Whether you’re in the field or at your desk this weekend, let’s make sure the next time we’re out on the 395, we’re ready to kill it.

🎭 Capturing HDR Scenes (by Austin James Jackson) – Perfect high-contrast coastal light ($59 value).
📂 Mastering Organization – Finally fix your messy Lightroom Classic catalog ($99 value).

The "Shutter to Publishing" journey is rarely a straight line. As a landscape photographer and educator, I know the two biggest hurdles most of my students face are mastering high-contrast light and keeping a messy Lightroom catalog under control.

Today at Noon, the Photography Path to Mastery Freeview officially opens. I’ve spent the last few days vetting the $2,000+ worth of resources in this year's bundle, and I’ve built a specific "Landscape Roadmap" for you.

I’ve hand-picked 4 specific courses (valued at over $300 alone) that you can actually "test drive" for free starting right now:

🌅 Capturing HDR Scenes – Mastering high-contrast light. 🎭 Advanced RAW Masks – Precision control in your edits. 📂 Mastering Organization – Ending the "messy hard drive" era. 📱 Sharing on Instagram – Getting your work seen in high quality.

How to watch for free:
Click the link below to browse the schedule. Look for the "Live Now" indicator and use the "Add to Calendar" button so you don't miss the sessions you want to see!

🎁 BONUS: While you're there, enter the $5,555.55 Giveaway (MacBook Air, $1,000 B&H Gift Cards, and more). It is completely free to enter!

🤝 Plus, 10% of every purchase goes to charity. It’s a win for your craft and a win for the community.

Revisiting the Yosemite Archives 🌲⛰️

Following yesterday’s desert drama with a shift in atmosphere. I was looking back through my Yosemite folders today, and these frames immediately pulled me back to the Valley and me want to go back for another adventure.

It’s a place that constantly teaches patience. It doesn’t matter how many times I visit, Yosemite never looks the same twice. From that quiet pre-dawn light hitting the fresh snow in the first frame (one of my all-time favorites), to the rare lunar rainbow (moonbow) catching the falls at night, to the symmetry of autumn reflections, it’s a place that forces you to wait for the light. These are the kinds of moments that keep me chasing with my lens and yearn for another go.

Swipe through to see some my favorite moments in the park. Which atmosphere do you prefer: the quiet calm of the snow or the lush energy of the autumn symmetry? Which season is your favorite? Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall?

The best plan is a flexible one. 🏜️

Late last October, I drove out to the Trona Pinnacles with one goal: to scout angles for Comet Lemmon (C/2025 A6). I was hoping to catch its rare pass through our inner solar system once the stars came out, but the desert had other plans for my pre-shoot scouting.

A cold front was pushing through right at golden hour, tearing up the atmosphere and catching this dramatic, directional light across the tufa spires. As much as I was there for the comet, I couldn't ignore the drama happening right in front of me.

This shot has been collecting dust on my hard drive for a while, and I finally got around to processing it today. This is a focus-stacked sequence shot at 70mm as I wanted that slight compression to maintain the scale and depth between the foreground textures and those massive storm clouds. I also utilized a NiSi True Color CPL and 3-Stop Soft Grad on my V7 system to cut through the atmospheric haze, pull those deep tones out of the storm clouds and balance the exposure.

The comet was the goal, but the sunset was the gift.

Which do you chase more often: the rare celestial event you planned for, or the unexpected storm that shows up uninvited?

Stop being afraid of high ISO! 🌌 Most people think ISO 100 is the cleanest setting for astrophotography, but on sensors like the Canon 5D Mark IV, it actually creates more noise and banding. I ran a stress test to find the "Sweet Spot."

Check the link below for the full Milky Way photography deep dive. Plus, I’m now booking private 1-on-1 photography workshops to help you master your gear.

This spring has been a bit of a strange one. 🏜️There was so much hype for a massive super bloom, but the season ended up fizzling out faster than expected due to one of the warmest and driest March's on record.🌸

Back in late February, while the promise was still there, I spent time scouting the desert before ending up here in Anza-Borrego. I’ve wanted to capture the Milky Way over wildflowers for years, so I wasn't going to let this opportunity slide.🌌

I set my alarm for the middle of the night and headed out. To my surprise, I had the entire landscape to myself as the core began to rise. ✨

To ensure full depth, I used focus stacking to keep both the foreground blooms and the stars perfectly sharp. Thankfully, the wind stayed calm, which made the long exposures a breeze.📸

It was a challenge finding a pristine composition in the dark with so many people visiting the area, but I’m really happy with this result. Another goal shot officially checked off the list!✅

Have you had a chance to get out and see the blooms this year?👇

There's just something truly magical about this particular stretch of coastline. It’s a reliable source of peace and has gifted me countless incredible sunsets over the years, and this fiery seascape is definitely one of the best! 🧡

Swipe to see the transformation! I’ve included a quick video of the editing process so you can see the before and after of how I enhance the mood and bring these colors to life. Which version do you prefer: the original or the final edit?
