A large part of our work as a photographic company is dedicated towards School Photography and within that realm we also photograph preschools which is similar but so different...I think you can understand :-) We use to frequent many WPPI ( Wedding and Portrait Photographers Intl.) conventions from 2000 to 2010. This was an exciting and evolving time for photography as Digital cameras were just being introduced. The first we saw was a 1MB camera introduced by Kodak and the price tag was 10K without a lens. WOW! As the digital age was ushered in and was becoming cheaper, it was obvious that the portrait and wedding world was expanding by those without much education and experience, but a really good camera. This led us to take a seminar and workshops in expanding into school photography which was a field left for serious photographers and a world away from the soccer mom mentality of wedding and portraits. It was a wise decision and for many years we balanced a full time job with UPS as a driver, and our ever growing family we like to call our Village. Covid has brought this phase of our business to a screeching halt for now until it is safe to proceed at any speed. We have expanded our school photography to include 3 brick and mortar TK -8 schools, 2 Charter school systems and around 4 Preschools. In the future I will highlight these places individually and all the great folks that keep them up and running. I will post no kids pictures, but will be happy to furnish samples and references to those interested. I will add my class composite and maybe you can figure out wheres Waldo...errr Pat.

About the time we started our venture into product photography with Carrillo Industries, we were contacted by a good friend Robin Hetland at Performance Machine to see where our interests lie with possibly photographing their product around 2006. Performance Machine was founded by my old neighbors and friends Perry and Nancy Sands in 1970 in a small shop in Paramount. I was more than excited to give it a go and I soon learned of the challenges associated with photographing chrome and highly reflective surfaces. We started a working relationship and continued strong for years that also included photographing product and goods from the other brands in the PM family, such as Roland Sands Design, and Progressive Suspension among others. A few years back the companies were sold and in time due to economic and management direction, much of the company was downsized and many good people found themselves out of a job. I met so many good people during this span of time and garnered some much valued experience in terms of my craft and our service that is so heavily tied into that. The good part of this story, at least for our business is that Robin and her trusted marketing director surfaced later...but that will be another post :-)

Being a wedding photographer, I would meet so many people at those events. At one of the weddings we were photographing, a DJ named Art Zippel whom we had worked with on occasion, introduced me to his wife Isabel. Isabel asked if I did commercial photography, because her business was looking for someone. I told her I hadn't and she asked if I would like to try. Well that opened the door for us and I am eternally grateful. The bonus about this opportunity was the introduction to Carrillo's marketing director(among other jobs) Cindy Verkooij who has remained in our lives as a great friend since. She has worked her way up from a small machine shop into a multi building presence as General Manager of CP-Carrillo Industries in Irvine. We have had a long personal and working relationship and relationships do matter. Here is a link to their website and a few images of their product.

I thought the best way to launch this page dedicated to the business is to get right to the beginning of when we took a turn at the fork in the road from portrait and wedding photography to product and school photography and services.

About the same time in 2007 I was contacted by Isabel Zippel from Carrillo Industries and Robin Hetland from Performance Machine about photographing product for their catalogs and at that time a fledgling web presence. I accepted the challenge and immersed my energy into learning product lighting and capture. This also translated into a frenzy of purchases to accommodate what the clients needed. As with anything else in business there was trial and error but we all had a great communicative relationship and the end results kept improving. Next Up...Carillo-CP

Covid does strange things to us all personally and professionally....(understatement). Due to the inactivity of business, I failed to realize that my website was shutdown by the host who went out of business without notice three months ago. It appears they were purchased by a Big Box at the beginning of this year only to dissolve the company. I am not surprised nor shocked...it's where we live now. I am kind of disappointed that I was not notified. Since I stopped doing weddings a few years back, the website was not a priority as it was in the past.

Since I have been downsizing the past few years, instead of building what would have been my 4th website, I will be using this page as an information and contact page. I am still enjoying doing product and school photography although the latter is on hold until we know what is safe for students and teachers. I will be posting regularly and will shake up the business side with sharing some personal bits minus politics.
This labor of love has been going on since 1999 and has always had twists and turns and I am thankful I do not have employees that count on me. I hope this finds all of you safe and relatively sane. Hugs, Pat
