I meant to post this last month, but I've been crazy busy. My kids would say "just crazy", but when you have three teenagers, you're not the sanest person.

Anyway, I photographed Egil Krogh decades ago when I lived in Seattle for a magazine. Having photographed Hillary Clinton for an entire day, the Governor, the Attorney General etc., I was finally in a comfortable place to work with big names and to creatively experiment with posing and light. He was very kind and obliged. He gave me 10 minutes.

I had no idea who he was until the editor told me just before the session. I wish I could find that portrait, but I think it was his best. I tried to capture his repentant and thoughtful nature.

If I come across one of my tear sheets, buried in my garage, I'll post it sometime. He also gave me a signed book, also buried in the garage, of his book "The Day Elvis Met Nixon". I forgot all about it until just now.

RIP Mr. Krogh.

Egil "Bud" Krogh dead at 80. He was Seattle lawyer who became Nixon White House aide, staffed famous meeting between President Nixon and Elvis Presley. He went to jail over Watergate, won reinstatement to the Washington bar, and spent rest of his life advising young White House aides not to make sam...

I photographed this cover around 1995, and the inside fashion spread. Ironically I photographed Dan Savage, who started his column in Seattle Weekly about a year later in his office for another magazine which I don't think exists anymore, Washington Law & Politics. That one is buried in a stack of my tear sheets.

I am too too too much.

Two weeks ago, I posted an article to LinkedIn by Steve Wiens. It is titled, “An Ode to Women Who Are Too Much.

Cleaning up, I just came across one of my favorite images that I put on a thank you card. This couple had a sweet gentleness with each other. They had been together something like 50 years. And if you put that in historical perspective, you know they suffered all the horrible societal intolerance of a black man with a white woman. I loved their hands so much. That's where you find someone's truth.

OMG, I LOVE this.

This image haunted me all my life. When I was a child I was mesmerized by it. It shaped how I felt my vision, listening to shadows. It begged a million questions. Can you see how much it influenced my work?

RIP Robert Freeman, the photographer who led the way to this one. My gratitude is immense.

My apologies to this photographer, I did not take this. We partied with this lovely man, and I never thought to ask him sit for me. He was simply funny as hell, full of joie de vie, and generous. I kick myself for just enjoying his presence, but not capturing his soul in print. I now know exactly what I would have done of him.
