2020 was a strange and scary time for most of us. I for one didn’t feel it was right to reach out to breweries for content for safety reasons and the fact they all had enough on their plate.

Thankfully during the beginning on 2021 Daniel of reached out and I was fortunate enough to start shooting again. I’ll begin posting photos from January soon.

For now I’m finally getting back in the groove and was excited to visit a few of my friend’s spots now that breweries and tasting rooms are opening up again.

If there are any breweries you’d like to see or you are a brewery/tasting room that would like to work together, please hit me up! Can’t wait to capture again!

Channeling my inner with my first studio photos.

Reached out to Liquid Gravity Brewing Co about their Welcome to California collaboration series back in February. They had sold-out, but could send a box of sample labels. I jumped on the opportunity and couldn’t wait to practice studio lighting.

Below are details from
on these amazing beers!
________
Welcome to Alameda - West Coast IPA - 7%
- Collaboration - This beer is brewed with whole cone Citra hops in the mash and hopback then dry hopped at 4.4 lbs per bbl with Strata, Enigma and Citra.
__________
Welcome to Lincoln - West Coast IPA - 6.7%
- Collaboration - Brewed using 25% flaked wheat, this beer is very light in color but has a soft texture from the wheat. The beer is then double dry-hopped aggressively with Galaxy, Citra and Mosaic.
__________
Welcome to Alpine - West Coast Double IPA - 8.2%
- Collaboration - This beer is brewed using a heavy dose of Golden Promise malt. Galaxy hops were added at knockout into the fermenter before double dry-hopping using Necteron, Citra and Mosaic. To dial it up one notch higher, this beer was also supercharged with Mosaic Incognito
_________
Welcome to Huntington Beach - Black Double IPA - 9.5%
- Collaboration - Using a blend of huskless dark malt and Sinamar, this Imperial Black IPA is jet black in color but very light on roasted flavor. The hop profile is Citra, Simcoe and Mosaic and then supercharged with Citra Incognito.

It’s been two years since my last visit to and it was as magical as I remembered.

Sure we were required to wear masks, but the trip was well worth the distance to spend time with friends and share beers while harvesting this years’ Le Grand Nectarines.

Oh and Mas, Marcy and Nikiko were super sweet as always. So nice seeing you all today!

After post-production I felt that the album needed a few more photos to round it out. I reached out to Bryan to see what was scheduled at the brewery on Presidents Day and was pleased to hear that they were canning.

I drove back down to San Juan Capistrano and after getting a coffee along with a nice chat with the baristas at I made my way over to the brewery.

When I arrived Mobile Canning West was still setting up and a pallet of cans were put into place. I learned that Docent Brewing had canned beer before, but only on collab beers. This was the first day they were canning their own beer and you could feel the excitement from the team.

The two beers to be canned included:

Gimme - 7.1% West Coast IPA
16oz Cans

Double Nickel - 5.5% Pale Ale
Silver Medal at GABF 2018
12oz Cans

Bryan and Bert setup at the end of the line. Bryan tested the weight of random cans and placed them into cases as Bert clipped them into 4 packs. The rest of the team made a line and stacked cases on the pallet.

After the long day the team celebrated by cracking open cans of Double Nickel for the first time.

The cover article photo I would say is one of my favorite parts of every shoot for . Most the time the client does not have any idea of what they want, so it’s always fun to work together on capturing the perfect shot.

Docent Brewing has fantastic lighting over the fermenters, so it was a no brainer to get a symmetrical shot of Bert and Bryan in the middle.

02.07.2020 - Docent Brewing for Beer Paper LA March Issue

Early morning on a Friday in February I drove down to Docent Brewing San Juan Capistrano, CA to take photos for the March issue of Beer Paper LA. I had been to the brewery once before, but just briefly for a pint on my way to San Diego.

Upon my arrival I met with Bryan the head brewer and his brother Brett (Bert) the assistant brewer. They were both prepping a tank for a dry-hop and another to transfer for carbing.

After their interview with Daniel I was able to get some nice aerial shots of Bryan dry hopping, Bert transferring beers between tanks and some of the tasting room staff serving up pints for locals getting off work.

Not pictured was the amazing Cubano sandwich I had between shots. Docent has a great kitchen with Sandwiches, Quesadillas, Salads and Mountaineer Rolls which as basically fancy pizza pockets which taste amazing and don’t melt your mouth.

Two days later on my way back from San Diego I stopped by again for addition shots. Every Sunday Docent offers live music offers live music. The Cholulas were playing while the tasting room was packed with patrons enjoying their afternoon.

01.18.2020 - Burgeon Beer Co 3rd Anniversary

Late post for the after after party at This year was the brewer’s dart competition. Not sure who won, but I don’t think that was the point. It was great catching up with everyone in a spot I don’t have a chance I get to visit as often as I’d like.

01.18.2020 - Burgeon Beer Co 3rd Anniversary

First off I hope everyone is healthy and taking this quarantine seriously. We are in this together and need to do out part by staying home.

While we all remain in quarantine I’ve been going through past albums from earlier this year when life was normal. This week is Burgeon Beer Co’s 3rd Anniversary.

This years event brought breweries from all over the country to share their special brews with attendees. Matthew and the employees at Burgeon put on an excellent festival along with their killer crew of volunteers year after year.

Returning breweries in 2019 included:
Alvarado Street
Artifex
Aslin
Casa Agria
Fieldwork
Horus
Humble Sea
Modern Times
Pinthouse Pizza
Pizza Port
Pure Project

New breweries that attended included:
Beachwood
Cellar Maker
Faction
Finback
Foam
Green Cheek
Highland Park
Kern River
MadeWest
Moksa
Moonraker
Ocelot
Port/Lost Abbey
Revision
Riip
Ruse
Russian River
Sante Adairius
Slice
Societe
Tarantula Hill
Vitamin Sea

With a jam packed line-up it’s no surprise that tickets sellout every year.

01.15.2020 - Beer Paper LA February 2020 Issue @ Homage Brewing

Through working with I’ve been fortunate to hangout with Matt and Lauren a handful of times, but never got the opportunity to work closely with them outside of beer events. So I was stoked to hear that I would be shooting their cover article for Beer Paper LA.

The day began with smell of fresh wort as I entered the tasting room. Jeremiah (Head Brewer) and Dominic (Cellarman) were brewing a new batch, while Matt and Lauren got ready for their close up. Facing East the tasting room brought in great natural light for the cover photo and I was able to get some action shots of Dominic working around the tanks.

Next Matt, Jeremiah and I visited their remote barrel room. Unlike other wild ferment breweries I’ve visited they do not refrigerate their aged hopes. Allowing them the chance to generating unique funky flavors. The barrels are only stacked two high do to the height restrictions, but allowed for easy access while Jeremiah syphoned off samples for them to taste and write notes for future releases.

Back at the tasting room Celeste was setting up for opening and we got some great pour shots before the sun went down.

I want to say thank you to the Homage crew for welcoming me into your space and sharing your process on wild fermented beers. Super happy with how the photos came out and look forward to my next visit!
