I am BEYOND excited to announce that I have finally opened an Etsy shop for my wildlife photography!

There’s only a few photos up right now but I will be adding four more every Monday, and I can always make prints of photos you want that are not yet listed. These are high-quality fine art prints so they are built to last and have smooth, rich colors that you won’t find with typical photographic prints.

I’ve been wanting to sell prints of my photos for years so I’m really proud that I got down to actually doing it this winter. I hope you all enjoy them too and will consider bringing one into your home 😊

Happy ! I've been re-editing a lot of my fox photos from four years ago now that I have new software and I'm pretty pleased with how they're turning out! But with the mention of these guys, I feel like something must be said about animal habituation, particularly when it comes to food conditioning: DO. NOT. FEED. WILD. ANIMALS. Earlier this week, a fox in Grand Teton National Park was euthanized for becoming much too comfortable walking up to people and looking for handouts; its last strike was after a prominent photographer baited it with food to get a picture. Last month a coyote in Yellowstone met the same end after a video showed it stalking a visitor and stealing a food bag dropped right at the visitor’s feet. Animals like this that begin associating people with food often become aggressive and are frequently hit by cars as they hang out in urban environments.

It’s not worth it. Even if you have the best intentions, it is better for wildlife to remain wild, for their safety and for yours. There are plenty of other ways to enjoy wildlife in natural spaces without the need to use lures or baits to get a “special” encounter. The end result will always be the same: a fed animal is a dead one.

Katmai may be famous for its bears, but it is also home to various other woodland species. Wolves occasionally make an appearance in Brooks Camp to take part in the salmon buffet, but they are typically more common on the coast and interior. Short-tailed weasels, also called ermine, are predators of voles and even hares if they get the chance; there were a lot of them around camp this past summer! Bald eagles and spruce grouse take advantage of the forested habitat for roosting and shelter, while mergansers are commonly seen diving for small fish species in the river. And of course, squirrels are the ones that really run the place.

The art of catching a fish.

Bears use a variety of techniques to nab a salmon when fishing. The "pounce" and "dash n' grab" methods are typically used when rushing a school of fish in order to stun a few. Brooks Falls is also a popular place to view bears waiting at the lip or at the base for fish to literally jump into their mouths. When salmon begin to spawn out, their carcasses will pile up on the river bottom, making it easy for bears to snorkel or dive for their meal; this is the less energetically costly and most common. It's also a great way for cubs to practice handling a fish before they attempt the real thing.

It's that time of year again! This past year has been an amazing one for me in terms of photographic opportunities and I want to share them with you. If you'd like to add a bit of the outdoors to your (or your friend's) home or office, I'm going to be selling THREE (3) varieties of calendars filled with my original photos from places like Kenya, Alaska, the Rocky Mountains, and southern Utah. They are (with sample photos below):
1 - "Into Africa"
2 - "The Bears of Katmai"
3 - "America the Beautiful"

Each calendar is $25 with an extra $5 for shipping costs (if needed). If you would like to order, please message me which variety you would like and your address. I will stop taking requests on NOVEMBER 25th (that's two weeks exactly) to give myself time to order and ship them out. Order soon!!

Meet the serval. I've admired this beautiful wildcat for a long time so to see one in the wild was an unreal experience. They appear like mini cheetahs, but instead of speed, their specialty lies in the pounce. Their sleek, streamlined bodies and long legs allow them to leap more than 9 vertical ft! While we didn't quite witness THAT, we were fortunate enough to watch this one hunt small rodents right next to our jeep for the good part of an hour. I still can't believe I was able to capture a moment like this - definitely a wildlife highlight in my budding career!
