These weren’t planned as a river session but it was hot so we jumped in anyways!! This was one of those sessions where mom and dad weren’t sure if they should book this year. Life can be chaotic and these days can feel so busy. Mom was worried about a long car ride and how the boys might do during photos. I was able to get her in super local and they went for it. Afterwards she told me how happy she was that they did photos this year. Sometimes we make it a big thing in our heads but the reality is that these photos are a gift to your future self. They don’t have to be perfect, they just have to be real! They have to be an experience frozen in time so you can look back and remember years from now. I love being able to provide a little snippet of your family story that grows more precious with time.

There’s so much noise around growth these days.

Show your face. Post every day. Change things up. Make it entertaining. Make it a scroll stopper. Scale, dance monkey dance!!!

We live in a world where people scroll right past beautiful things because they’re not stimulating enough. Everything has to be bigger, faster, or different.

So today, no clever hook, no trending audio, no attempt to beat the algorithm.

Just a beautiful family I had the pleasure of photographing.

Kids being kids. Lots of laughter. A little chaos. Mom and Dad loving on their babies.

Photos that make a beautiful Christmas card this year, but also serve as a little timestamp of what life looked like in this season. And I think that’s pretty special.

Sometimes it’s okay to just let the photos be enough.

One of my favorite things is when kids actually have fun during their photo session! 🤍

No forced smiles or expecting them to sit still the whole time. We play, laugh, explore, and let them be themselves!

Lately, I’ve been thinking about why I love candid photos so dang much.

And I think it has a lot to do with how I feel when I look back at photos from my own childhood.

The ones that capture a moment frozen in time make me feel like I can almost transport myself right back to that moment. I absolutely cherish the photos that show me I was loved and cared for.

I love them because they only get better with time.

They are a gift to the next generation. A way to show our children how deeply they were loved and what they looked like experiencing true childhood joy.

The giggles, the tickles, the wrestling around. All of it.

Someday, these photos will give them a beautiful glimpse into their childhood that a posed photo just can’t quite give them.

Both are wonderful, but those candid moments just get me every single time.

This particular day 4/5 of my mini sessions traveled to Lodi from out of town for their photos. This sweet family drove over an hour to see me. That is the biggest compliment that you guys would make the time to come out to have me take your photos. It’s an honor I don’t take lightly. I’ve worked so hard and seeing all my amazing clients year after year really makes it all worth it. I love that this family still likes to have fun, even with older kiddos. 😊

I did a happy dance when I read Moms questionnaire and saw that she wanted to capture the boys personalities and loved candid moments. Not perfection, just life as it is in this moment. What do you see when you look at these?
