"I very easily could not be here talking to you right now."

She said it matter-of-factly. No dramatics. Just clarity.

Charla is 50. The year and a half before this birthday was one of the hardest stretches of her life: a divorce, a move back home that didn't feel like home, a new job, caregiving for her mother, and a breaking point that landed her in the hospital on Christmas Eve.

She came home. She did the work. She flew to Oregon to celebrate her birthday with her best friend from eighth grade-- the one who told literally every stranger they met that it was her birthday!

Then she came to the studio, alone, on purpose. "I think I'm gonna do this myself, for myself, by myself."

The camera has almost never been on Charla. She's always been the one making sure everyone else was in the frame.

The portraits are hers. She EARNED it.

She almost waited.

Yuki was 5, right in her prime, and Miyo didn't want to hold off until she was a senior to get these portraits made.

Now she's walking through the exhibition, and there's a wall with her name on it, her dog beside her, exactly the way she wanted to remember this season.

That's the whole reason this project exists.

"It felt like an opportunity to pause and honor the woman I have become."

That's Jacquie, on her In Her Era session. She told us she never felt like she was simply being posed. She felt seen, held space for reflection, celebration, even a little vulnerability, and the portrait carries all of it.

"This wasn't simply about documenting what I look like in this era. It was about honoring who I have become because of every era that came before it."

"They treated my dog as part of my family, like the baby she is to me."

"I did all the things. And this is not the destination I thought I was getting to."

That's Lisa, a woman who checked every box on the list and still found herself "off course."

So she burned the map.

Three years ago, she left. Then, more recently, she left again--a job that asked her to shrink in a different way. Now she's building something for midlife women who know exactly what it feels like to follow someone else's script to the wrong destination. She's calling it Navigating Off Course. We're calling it her era!

She came to the studio solo, on purpose, to celebrate it all. And then she also included her sweet mom, who's been by her side through it all.

Meet Amy.

After raising four children, Amy is officially in her “rediscovery” era, embracing this next chapter and all the things she loves most.

Cooking for others is her love language, and her two dogs and cat make up her favorite trio. At the end of the day, you’ll likely find her knitting while catching up on a favorite show.

Amy laughs hard and loud, loves her people even louder, and brings that same warmth to the clients and team at Jennifer Lindberg Studio.

She absolutely loves the people she gets to work with and says there’s nowhere else she’d rather be.

"This is my legacy and true self era."

That's how Katrina describes where she is right now. Not chasing anyone's approval anymore, just protecting what matters most: her family, and finally, a little bit of herself.

She's spent her career as a middle school teacher, and just as long showing up for her own kids, always the one pointing the camera at everyone else.

Then a recent health scare in her family turned her world upside down and reminded her how quickly things can change. So she booked this session, camera-shy hands and all, and brought her daughter C. along to share it with her.

"I left in December."

That's Catherine, who spent 30 years in corporate America and then left to open her own investment advisory practice. She didn't retire. She built it on her own terms, because thirty years showed her the best ways to share her expertise with others.

She's learning mahjong. She plays tennis. She sees her grandchildren in ways the old schedule never allowed.

Most people spend this stage navigating subtraction. Catherine picked up a new way of doing business, a racket, and a game she'd never played. She's not finishing anything. She's starting.

"He's the star of the show."

That's what E. told us about Benedict, her gray Bedlington Terrier, who is eight months old and unwraps his own Christmas presents.

She's comfortable in front of a camera. But for this session, the angles were all his. She spent the whole time watching him, checking on him, making sure he was settled before she thought about herself.

Both her parents work in veterinary medicine and she's thinking about vet school herself. Watching her with Benedict, it makes so much sense. She's already good at putting him first.

"My kids are old enough to be a little more self-sufficient. There was an opportunity there, and I took it."

That's Emily. She's a nurse practitioner. She's a mother. And the opportunity she took was making her first solo album, out this year.

The music was always there. It just got set down for a while, the way things do when you're building a career and raising kids at the same time.

She's spent years around music photography, which means she knows exactly what the camera is for and still doesn't love being in front of it. She said so up front. Then she showed up anyway and gave us a session that looks effortless.

This is her era. Not waiting any longer. Going ahead and being the artist she is.
