"My son's turning 20, so that's where we are now. Adults."

That's what Frances told us before her "Then and Now" session, and you could hear it in her voice. Equal parts pride and something a little more bittersweet.

Back in 2022, she brought Dylan in before his senior year. He wasn't exactly begging for a photoshoot, but he showed up for his mom, because that's what he does.

This time, Dylan came back at 20, about to move out and start building his own life.

We recreated the poses from three years ago, same couch, same corner of the studio.

"We haven't had any photos like this since before he graduated high school, and now he's out. You know, he's out."

That's the whole story in one sentence. A mom watching her kid become an adult, grateful and proud and a little unmoored all at once.

This is why we love photographing our Then and Now families. It's never just about the photos. It's about standing in the same spot years apart and seeing exactly how far you've come, in black and white.

Frances and Dylan, thank you for letting us tell your story. 🖤

He came into her life to help her through losing one old dog. Now he's the old dog.

Christina's a veterinarian in Blanco — the 'basset hound lady,' according to everyone in town. Christina's mom, (also a vet,) found out about a stray basset wandering in Kentucky and put him on a plane to Texas as a surprise for her daughter.

Boy-the basset is eleven now, and he is, by all accounts, still trying to wander.

Christina knows the drill and goes and gets him. That has been the arrangement for ten years and neither of them plans to renegotiate.

Conway, the golden retriever, supervises and has never once tried to wander.

This is why we make portraits.
Thank you Christina, Boy, and Conway for sharing your beautiful bond with us. 🖤

She loves her dog the way some people love their person. Completely, without needing a reason.

That kind of bond belongs on a wall, not just on your phone.

Women & Dogs is back. If you’ve been thinking about it, this is your sign.

"I don't have any pictures of me with my dogs."

Thirty years in the Navy, a career in government service, and a lifetime of labs, and Susan had never once stepped in front of the camera with them.

Then came Tank. 82 pounds of yellow lab energy, and the reason she finally said yes to herself.

"I call him mama's baby boy, which is ridiculous. He'll be five in May. And yes, I know his birthday."

That's Carole talking about Beans, her rescue Texas Heeler, and the affection in her voice says everything. Beans came into her life through rescue, and this year she nursed him through a long illness that tested both of them.

Carole is part of an active duty military family based in San Antonio, and she came to the studio during a season marked by real loss. Her sister-in-law passed away recently, and it's made the value of photographs, actual proof of the people and pets she loves, feel more urgent than ever.

She calls Beans a "velcro" dog. Anyone who has nursed an animal back to health knows exactly what that means. It's the kind of bond built in the hard moments, not just the easy ones.

Her husband Jesse came along too, helping keep Beans' attention through the whole session. Cozy pajamas, a big couch, a dog who never leaves her side. Some portraits are about celebration. This one is about holding on to what matters.

She’s been playing this sport since she was little.

She knows every drill, every lineup, every moment right before the ball hits and the whole gym goes quiet.

But no one has ever put her in the frame.

Not unfiltered. Not with the intensity she carries in her body when she walks onto that court. Not in a way that says: this is who she is. This is the strength she’s built. This is real.

That’s what Play Like a Girl Legacy is.

It’s not a cute photo session. It’s proof. It’s art on the wall that says she was HERE, she competed, she showed up, she’s worth photographing with intention, because she IS.

Female athletes deserve to be seen this way.

Like they MATTER.

"The photo shoot was so much fun for my daughter. They made it easy for her to relax and let the creativity flow."

That's Angela, after her daughter's Play Like a Girl session. Real creativity, real confidence, captured exactly as it happened.

This is what we get to do every single day, and we're so grateful for it.

"If I don't do this, I will probably regret it."

Doc is 13. A blue heeler-border collie mix, a distinguished old gentleman dog who loves the outdoors and can't walk as far as he used to. Steph brought her whole family, boots and all, to make sure he's treasured on a wall forever.

That's what we do here.

Thank you, Steph, for entrusting us to help make these memories with your beautiful family.

That bond belongs on a wall. Not buried in your camera roll. On a wall, in black and white, forever.

My "do what I wanted to do forever" era.

That's how Judi describes turning 75.

She's been through broken bones, depression, grief, years of caretaking...And now there's a condo in Mexico and a barbell class and a thrifted dress she loves and puts on just because she feels like it.

"I'm taking charge now," she said, "where I was kind of being buffeted before."

She walked into that studio solo, on purpose. This was HER portrait. Not a couples session. Not something to check a box. Just Judi, finally, fully, in her own frame.

That's In Her Era. We're here for the women who feel called to join this project. 🖤

In Her Era is for women 40 and older. Limited to 40 women. Now booking July sessions. Link in bio. Thank you, Judi, for an inspiring and beautiful session together.
