and KXAN’s Studio 512 took notice. 📸

We sat down with the amazing Rosie Newberry at Studio 512 to talk about what happens
when you stop photographing girls through a polished, perfected filter,
and start capturing who they are and what they can do.

The sweat.
The grit.
The determination.
The strength.

That is what a female athlete looks like.

Through black-and-white portraiture that strips away the noise
and goes straight to the soul, we are giving girls permission
to simply show up as themselves and be seen for exactly that.

We're in Voyage San Antonio.
The Voyage team asked for the story behind the studio, and we got to share all of it.

The 1898 building in downtown Lockhart that Jim and I couldn't stop thinking about.
The years before the studio. The photojournalism, Death Row inmates for the New York Times, teen birth mothers for Marie Claire, chasing the stories that weren't being told loudly enough. The quiet, gut-punch realization after adopting our two toddlers that we had no baby photos of them.

That's the moment everything got personal.

We opened in 2018 with one mission:
Bring women back into the frame.

Because somewhere along the way, women became the keepers of everyone else's memories and disappeared from their own.

Eight photographers later. Over $60,000 raised for nonprofits. Clients driving in from Houston, Laredo, all corners of Texas. Play Like A Girl picked up by news stations in five cities. She's In Her Era becoming one of the most meaningful things we've ever built.

None of it happens without you. The women who walked in before we had anything to point to. The ones who said yes to being seen. The ones who keep telling their friends.
