After multiple attempts of chasing after turkeys we finally made it happen!
Far from a traditional approach, this Jake/young Tom tried to play duck hunter with me…
Coming around the corner of the ol logging road as we were in route to setup for our evening bear hunt this guy and a hen were quick to seek cover about 40 yards ahead of us. Slamming the breaks, I slap it in park while .nw passed me the shotgun, I grabbed a shell from the cup holder and made haste like Last of the Mohicans from the rig while loading on the move.
Going for the ambush method over the ledge, the hen flew left and I had to quickly identify that she was not the one to shoot, then down to my right I catch Mr. Turkey taking flight at 20/25 ish yards down a super steep hill…did my best to put the bead on the back of his head and he folded instantly (pure joy and hype came over me after 2 full weeks of filming turkey hunts where we’ve come up empty-handed…it definitely felt overdue). I finally understood where the term “run and gun” comes from.
Stoked to share this moment with some bear camp buddies…definitely a fun memory!
Side note, I am open to any and all recipe suggestions for some ways to enjoy cooking this turkey up! $88 for a non-res turkey tag in Idaho if you guys ever get a chance to chase them around it is a blast! I think turkeys are awesome and super fun to hunt! took me on my first turkey hunt and this is now my second successful round.
magically caught some footage of this crazy situation I’ll post for ya next.
