I worked really hard for this picture. The more I see AI permeating social media, the more I hope people still appreciate real photography, even a B&W photo like this. Isn't there something special about how a picture strikes you when all the color is stripped away, captured in pure tones of light and shadow? I hope you enjoy this picture of a beautiful NH black bear in a birch tree. I love my work. I hope it's a still a long time before this ludicrous race towards increasing technology takes away my livelihood with a camera.

Wow, did I ever get lucky with the light on this moose. And I got lucky just finding her at all! But luck isn't quite all there is to the story. You know how sometimes - when you're driving around New England - you'll sometimes see a swampy spot where it looks like moose have been stomping around in the mud near the road? Well, I had a hunch about one of those moose-stompy spots, so I went and sat next to one in the dark. Look who showed up right at sunrise to get a mud-puddle drink and a few sapling nibbles! Her summer coat has almost grown in fully now. Just a gorgeous moose in the New Hampshire woods.

Here he is! A black bear cub catching the warmth of the sunrise on his shoulders after a chilly night in the White Mountains yesterday. This is the "blurry-cell-phone-video-cub" (see previous post) in much better detail: the result of forcing myself to get up at 4:30am to go find him again with my camera and 400mm lens! If you want to take good photos of wildlife, you HAVE to have a real camera. Keep following along for more real moments from nature in New England, lots of early mornings and hard work, and zero Al.

I found this bear cub on a bit of a moody bushwhack a few days ago in NH without my camera, then got up at 4:30 yesterday and hiked back out there to find him again in the same tree! Check out my other post today to see the closeup picture I got :)
