I want to take this time and opportunity to share how pleased I am that a statue in Honor of Mrs. Daisy Bates will be unveiled in her Honor and recognition in Washington DC this week. It was due to Mrs. Bates and Janis Kearny-Nash providing me an opportunity to be their Photojournalists in the mid 80’s for the Historical Arkansas State Press that her and her Husband LC Bates started and had to shut down because of her stance and involvement with integrating Little Rock Central High School in 1957. Mrs. Bates was indeed a selfless person with a tremendous love for kids, I surmised it was probably because she didn’t have any natural kids herself, only her cats. I am honored to have been her personal photographer for all of the years that we knew each other! She gave me the opportunity to elevate my photography career, I remember once she got upset with me because she wanted me to do something and I told her no, and she commented “I made you who you are” i respectfully replied “no you didn’t make me you helped me with the opportunity you provided, she smiled and never said that again. Congratulations Mrs. Daisy Bates !! The black and white pictures from the is post are from Historical coverage of her life!
