Vintage WWII-era camera lenses!

The Helios 44-2 and Helios 40-2 — legendary Soviet-era glass — were used on this video, and they absolutely banged.

I realized we never shared this video that we helped Dougan Lewis create several months back. Things got busy, now that there's a free minute, we wanted to share it with you all.

The Helios lenses are known for their dramatic look and signature swirly bokeh. They’re highly valued for creating a painterly, vintage aesthetic — and that character definitely came through here.

That said, they also brought some challenges. In post, maintaining consistent color was tricky, especially with the Helios 40-2 (85mm), which had a strong green tint in the log footage. I’m not a color-grading specialist, the final video has a solid result and matched well with the 44-2.

Seeing the “true colors” shining through… We love how these provider video interviews turned out for the team at for their promotional video spots! Using false color for exposure settings, as well as in editing, really makes a difference for the overall final look. We’re in love with the results.
