Early morning as the fog lifts

I paddled to a shady spot on the pond so, I could look at the pictures and videos I had captured. I looked up just in time to see dad with baby swimming towards my kayak.

A new loon flew in this morning! They spent some time checking each other out, and I was pretty sure dad would chase it off, but he didn’t do that right away. After talking with Cynthia, who lives on Little Purgatory Pond, we thought maybe this was last year’s loonlet—could be! Mom and dad left the baby all alone at the other end of the pond 😮🫣🤭 while an eagle flew overhead. I paddled over to where the baby was, and it tucked itself into a shallow cove (smart baby!). There were TWO loons that flew in over the course of this morning and by the time I left they both had flown off the pond. Mom, dad and baby all safe ❤👍

Sometimes loons bless you by swimming right up to you when you’re sitting perfectly still. I always make sure to keep a respectful distance when photographing wildlife, but today, as I sat quietly scrolling through the shots I’d taken, I looked up to see a dad and baby gliding toward my kayak on their own. Moments like this make me feel truly blessed ❤ Loons of Little Purgatory Pond
