Forever one of our favorite groom portraits — we find ourselves coming back to it over and over again. A shot that a decade from now we would choose to hang in our own art gallery of “favs”.

Brides get a lot of love, but grooms, we love the s**t out of you too. We promise to think outside of the box for you too, always.

Mid-day sun, and the only place for any shade to escape the heat was either under this singular tree, or up on the deck. We loved how the light was peeking through the limbs, making the tree the obvious choice.

Shooting receptions using the DJs lights instead of external light has become one of our favorite things to do. It really makes you feel like you were there.

The sunset colors were TOO GOOD. You’ll see a variety of images from this 20 minute section of portrait time where we’re were able to capitalize on the changing colors and light. The image was shot without an external light, using the backing of the sky to make it the focus point.

Sure, using flash for this shot would’ve been the more safe choice. But as soon as we saw the shadows, and how the small amount of window light made the lipstick and ring pop, we knew safe was boring, and this was the money shot.

We LOVE a solid direct flash moment. These images were only minutes apart, but the setting sun made sky look different in each image.

Another example of the sky popping off.

Old us would have run scared AF seeing the spotty lighting and harsh sun during the ceremony, but today’s version of us knows we have the skills to make it work. We chose to shoot the entire ceremony without external lighting and use the natural light pockets to create images that truly showed what it looked and felt like to the guests witnessing the union.

A perfect sun flare = amazing. But when it that drenches the skin it orange light some might struggle. We know this is all in the editing, so we can confidently shoot knowing the end result will be magic.

Harsh light has become our best friend this past year. We love the way light and shadows play throughout the day. It gives SO much variety to a gallery when you are able to capitalize on the changing environment — light, background, timing.

Another example of why playing with the DJs lights can be way more fun than a flash moment.

Biggest risk that paid off this year was relying on spotlights during certain

We’ve seen some truly wild wedding industry advice over the years.

Advice that prioritizes portfolios over people.
Advice that treats weddings like content opportunities.
Advice that tells vendors the “right” way to run their business—and publicly shames those who do it differently.

Here’s our hot take:

The wedding industry spends way too much time worrying about what other vendors are doing and not enough time asking one simple question:

“How does this benefit the couple?”

Some of these opinions might ruffle a few feathers, but we’re sharing them anyway.

Please, tell us your biggest wedding industry hot take!!

Be foolish, be young, be happy!!!!
