We are not children. We are grown ass women who care more about this baby (and our own wellbeing) than anyone else. As your doula, I promise to always believe you. To trust you. To center you and your own wisdom.

I hope you trust yourself, too.

Two things can be true.

C-sections are overused. AND it is a valid, no-shame, sometimes necessary way to give birth.

Cesarean birth isn’t the “easy way” out, or less transformative. Cesarean birth IS birth.

Its World Doula Week. This week we celebrate the work that doulas do. This work is not for the faint of heart, and it’s also an absolute honor.

If you had a doula you loved working with, comment below what you loved about your experience with them and tag them to show your appreciation!

🙋‍♀️ Did you know that having a doula significantly decreases the need for medical intervention during birth, and significantly increases birth satisfaction (regardless of the circumstances)?

Having a doula isn’t a “trend”. This role goes back as far as our species, and is now becoming more recognized and respected among both families and providers.

I’m super curious to know - how many of you know what a doula is and what they do (and don’t do)?!

I’m really

Birth is not a medical event. It is a transformative rite of passage that sometimes requires medical intervention for survival.

Birth is not meant to be easy. No rite of passage is.

It is meant to illuminate those parts of yourself that need to be transformed - ready or not.

It is humbling.
It takes you to the edges of yourself.
It will rock you to your absolute core.

This is true whether your baby arrives with no help at all, with every medical intervention possible, or somewhere in between.

To the moms currently preparing for birth, know this: you don’t have to be perfect or figure it all out. You ultimately cannot control the outcome, so give yourself grace, compassion, and space for whatever unfolds on this journey.

And to the moms who are grieving the birth they didn’t get - I see you.

I know you also had to go to the edges of yourself to bring your baby earthside. You had to face your fears head on, and came out the other side stronger for it (even though you might feel broken, angry, sad, grief, frustration, or even shame).

Your journey is no less empowering or transformative just because it didn’t look like how you imagined. Actually, the fact that you faced it and came out the other side is exactly the point.

Share with a mama who needs to hear it. Let’s normalize birth in all its forms, so that every mom knows what a freaking badass she is, no matter how her baby got into her arms 💪

Hey friends,

I wanted to share a quick update about how I’m showing up here.

I’ve decided to step away from actively using this business page. Between constant changes to the algorithm and my own waning interest in social media in general, it’s been feeling less aligned — especially as I’ve been craving more depth, connection, and intention in how I communicate with my community.

That doesn’t mean I’m disappearing.

If you’d like to stay connected, the best place to do that is through my email list. That’s where I share more personal updates about life and business, along with any announcements, offerings, or promotions as they come up. It’s slower, more intentional, and honestly feels much more like me.

👉 You can join the list here: https://www.novitaphoto.com/contact/

Going forward, if and when I do share things related to birth work or photography on Facebook, it will be from my personal account. So if you’d like to continue following along here, feel free to find me at .l.castleberry.

Thank you for being here, for your support, and for evolving with me. I’m grateful for this community — and I’m excited to stay connected in ways that feel more meaningful.

— Leslie
