I have had an absolutely spectacular two days (with another half coming) at Pima Air & Space Museum. I have been to a lot of museums in my life and never have I been to a place that has so much. Can't say enough good about this trip and I will certainly come back. I really like their extensive non-US collection (for no other reason than I can't get overseas to see this type of stuff). The "one offs" like the YC-14, SOFIA 747SP, and many others were also welcome. And, I got to meet a 103-year-old B-17 pilot with 28 missions in WWII. Those "relics" you don't run into much anymore.

Here are a few from the over 2000 photos from the trip.

The queen of the skies, the Boeing 747! Most are from my home airport at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport where we see can still easily see a dozen on the field at a time.

I am planning on getting some new photos of airliners this weekend and trying out the Sigma 150-600mm lens that was just received.

In the meantime, how about some Boeing 777's?

The C-1 Trader Carrier Onboard Delivery (COD), better known as perhaps the plane Maverick would have flown had he been demoted to fly rubber dog p**p out of Hong Kong.

The blue 'Casper' ghost is representative of this plane's assignment to the USS Lexington, nicknamed the "Blue Ghost" during WWII.

The Curtiss Helldiver was a very important but less spectacular member of the Naval Aviation forces in the Western Pacific during WWII. It is a dive and torpedo bomber. It was slow and bulky, a juicy target for surface gunners and fighters in the air alike. Although I am sure the crews at the time were a bit nervous climbing into one of these for a mission. Watching it buzz around at an airshow sure is inviting though.
