This afternoon, astronaut Christina Koch, a North Carolina State graduate, lifted off from Launch Pad 39B at the Kennedy Space Center onboard the Artemis rocket on the way to the moon. It’s been 19,473 days, 17 hours, and 51 minutes since the last Apollo moon mission, Apollo 17. The crew of Artemis will spend one day in orbit around the Earth to check out the Orion capsule before firing their engine for a translunar injection (TLI) burn on a 6-day trip beyond the moon. The crew is expected to land in the Pacific Ocean on April 10th.
