For more than half of my life I’ve fought a semi-silent battle with chronic illness. Endometriosis. God has been so gracious to me through it all. 🙌🏻

I chose to avoid Rx & turned to homeopathy, had a needed surgery in 2018 & was back to working out consistently, eating healthy & feeling great. My symptoms returned early 2019 & began to worsen that summer. By October 2019 I was bedridden & in the worst pain of my life - but determined to fight back. I spent almost one month using a walker (and even showed up to a session using it 🤘🏻), stopped booking clients, cancelled several sessions & eventually decided to step back altogether except for a few sessions this year. The timing was good though, eventually coinciding with quarantine & I was able to rest my weary body without feeling obligated to carry on.

Sadly, my condition has worsened rapidly in the last few months. I’ve done my best to hide all of it (especially the 40+ pounds of unexplained weight I’ve gained since Jan making me look & feel pregnant - though multiple tests have proven otherwise) I’ve put on a brave face & tried to weather the storm. But the internal battle is far worse than the physical. To compensate for the mental turmoil, I’ve focused all efforts on inner work, slowing down, tuning in to the Spirit of God & His will for my life, spending time with family, close friends & homeschooling. We spent as much time outdoors as we could, kept my body active & did my best to avoid social media for mental clarity (a major trigger for me).

After lots of prayer & consideration, with the advice of my doctor & in hopes of a better quality of life, I’ve made the decision to undergo a major surgery this month. During my recovery I’ll be praying over the direction & mission of Nelson + Co. (formerly Bridgette Nelson Photography). I’m not certain what the future holds but for now I will be closing my books until late Spring 2021 at the earliest. Please keep me in your thoughts & prayers. 🙏🏻 Every bit of love, support & care from friends, family & clients has not gone unnoticed or without gratitude. I’m so thankful for those who have been holding the space for me.

Is this even real life? I am ecstatic about the direction I’m headed. I love adventure and am meeting so many wonderful women along the way. Our “how” and “why” may be different but our goals are the same - to serve others. This makes us co-workers!

My mission is to support other women who have bravely stepped out on their own to do what they are passionate about and brings them joy. You may be a maker, a baker, an artist. Maybe you’re an author, a tutor, a jeweler, a therapist, a health coach. Maybe you’ve started a ministry providing the needs of the homeless, underprivileged, at-risk or a program that gives back to the community. Working for ourselves in any field we feel called to is not for the faint of heart!

Recently I did a collaboration with a local Women Entrepreneurs Group. Nicci, our fearless BA group leader and owner of Raven Wood, Tiffany with A BeauTifful Space and I hosted a “Get Your Pics” event for group members. Tiffany did product photography while I did lifestyle branding photos.

This is Katie, owner of Ms. Thrillkill's Catering. Katie brought several of her delicious creations along to be photographed and when we were done we all indulged! A beautiful charcuterie board spread, mini cheeseburgers, German chocolate cake, chocolate chip cookies, so much more AND - she converted me - her pistachio macaroons were 🧨💥 You won’t go wrong by hiring Katie to cater your event!

To quench our thirst we shared the low sugar, low-calorie, organic, flavored apple cider vinegar from Sour Lemon Beverage Co.

We came, we conquered! Truly excited to see these ladies’ businesses flourish and thrive!

Been a little minute since I’ve posted! I’ve been busy behind the scenes dreaming up new business ideas while spending lots of time with my family as we prepped for our first full year of homeschooling!

We’re only charging $499 for one of these sessions right now, which is WAY lower than we’ll be charging once we officially add this to our business in a few weeks.

However, we need to know before the end of THIS WEEKEND! Sign-ups for the course we’re taking start next week, so we want to have these spots filled before then. Sessions will be booked for the month of July so we have time to design their session.

I had so much fun spending the day with Alyssa and her family. We ate donuts, played with the kids, talked about how Alyssa is now able to be home with her kids because she is rocking her YoungLiving biz. Then the newest little babe had his first bath and we did some family and product photos. Mostly, we enjoyed each other’s company and had a blast WORKING!

Today my friend Nicole and I met at the park with the kids. An irritating cloud of gnats crashed our cozy spot so we moved. We were engrossed in conversation again but still very aware of our surroundings.

Suddenly Nicole spotted a very young boy, maybe three years old, scaling the OUTSIDE of the slide in front of us. He was moving fast and at least 20 feet off the ground. It didn’t take long for it to register the only logical way this boy was coming down was by falling - Nicole and I leapt into action. As we rushed over and positioned ourselves, he slipped. Thankfully Nicole was perfectly positioned in the direction he fell and she broke his fall. He fell with enough force that Nicole was knocked to the ground. We laid him flat as a crowd gathered and his mom rushed over while someone called 911. We were all visibly shaken. Someone in the crowd said to Nicole, “You just saved this boy’s life!”. Those words were so intense but oh, so true. The terrifying possibilities that could have been ran through our minds as he wiggled his toes, moved his arms and legs and turned his head! We were choking back tears and consoling our own children. Shortly after the paramedics left the boy was back to running around while his mom exchanged hugs and gratitude with Nicole.

I shutter to think that only a few minutes before we were sitting on the other side of the slide and had we not moved at the right time we would not have even seen this boy climbing. We settled back onto our towels and talked some more while keeping a watchful eye on our littles. Our conversation kept landing back on this event as our hearts and minds continued to process what we had just experienced.

What does this have to do with photography...nothing. But this rocked my world today and I couldn’t help but share it with the world. Being vigilant can be seen as overstepping but it’s easy to hesitate and think someone else will do something.

Nicole said it so perfectly as we left the park - “Always run for the babies!” And we repeated it together...”always run for the babies...”
