I woke up still in awe as to what I saw/heard last night at the Chamber Music Festival of Lexington's final concert of the week. Holy wow. Mike Block, cellist, composer and singer, performed his original composition "Hope on the Hill" with five other musicians. He uses a strap to hold his cello while standing and playing, but then....he started singing at the same time! The piece itself was unique, inspiring and creative. If you ever get a chance to hear this guy, do it! Here's my gallery of photos from the concert.

The weather was perfect and the ambiance was sublime at Equus Run Vineyards last evening for the Chamber Music Festival of Lexington's "Cabaret with Zach Brock and Nathan Cole." Both violinists are Lexington natives and alums of CKYO, who have gone on to do great things. Brock is a Grammy Award winner, and Cole is concertmaster of the Boston Symphony. There are 3 more Main Stage concerts this week at the Downtown Arts Center to round out the festival.

Young singers!! Grade K-12, the Lexington Singers Children's Choir - LSCC needs you!
Sign up for auditions at: www.lexsing.org/lscc
Here are the choirs and the approximate ages. Talent and experience are always taken into consideration, so these grade levels are just general guidelines:
Preparatory Choir - generally grades K-2, Annie Starzman, director.
Intermediate Choir - generally grades 3-5, Amy Black, director.
Advanced Choir - generally grades 6-8, Taylor Strickland, director.
*Chamber Choir - generally grades 9-12, Daniel Wesley, director.
*The Chamber Choir is touring EUROPE next summer! The first-ever international tour for the LSCC!

I really thought that I'd seen "Dear Evan Hansen," but it turns out I've just heard some of the songs from it. This is the first Kentucky production of this Tony-award winning musical, opening tonight at West Jessamine High School! A Jessamine County Arts + Community production, with some great local talent. A great cast, excellent choreography and a really cool dragon make this is a "Shrek" to see! Leeds Center for the Arts presents "Shrek: the Musical" June 12-28. Let your freak flag fly!
