🍁 FALL IN THE BLUEGRASS 🐎

October is one of my favorite months in Kentucky. Keeneland's Fall Meet is underway, the Breeders' Cup is coming to Lexington, and the beautiful fall colors are just getting started.

It's also one of my favorite times of year for portraits.

Whether it's your family, your graduating senior, or you and your horse, I'd love to get you in front of my camera this fall.

For those of you who don't know me, I'm Stephanie Gilmore. I've been a professional portrait photographer since 2002, and my work has earned me the distinctions of Master Photographer, Photographic Craftsman, and Kentucky Photographer of the Year.

I specialize in photographing families, children, high school seniors, pets and equestrians, and professionals in need of updated headshots and personal branding portraits. My sessions are relaxed and fun, with a mix of beautifully posed portraits and genuine, candid moments. I provide as much direction as you need, so you don't have to worry about knowing what to do in front of the camera. That's my job.

Fall portrait collections start at $500 and include your complete gallery of professionally retouched digital images with personal printing rights. No additional image purchases required.

Professional headshot sessions are also available, starting at $300.

Happy Labor Day! This seems like a good time to share a side of my work that I don’t show nearly enough.

I photograph a LOT of people at work.

Business owners, executives, physicians, attorneys, realtors, retailers, creatives, and all kinds of people who have built careers and businesses they’re proud of. And while sometimes the job is simply a great headshot, some of my favorite assignments are the ones where I get to photograph people in their own environment and create something that tells a little more of their story.

When I moved to Lexington five years ago, I had spent nearly 20 years building a business and a client base in the Ashland/Tri-State area. Moving meant starting over in a lot of ways, and I’m really proud of the professional relationships I’ve built here.

I have to give TOPS in Lexington a lot of credit for that. Photographing for the magazine has given me the opportunity to meet and photograph so many people in Lexington’s business and professional community. I’ve photographed many of the same people, many times over the past five years. Those working relationships have grown into friendships. I’m always grateful when someone specifically requests me when it’s time to be photographed again. That kind of trust means a lot.

I’ve also built a wonderful client base of my own here in Lexington. I love when someone I photographed years ago calls because it’s time for an updated headshot, a new branding campaign, or photographs for a business they’re building. One of my favorite things about this job has always been the people. I especially love photographing someone who's reticent to have their picture taken, or who just doesn’t feel confident in front of a camera. There’s something incredibly rewarding about creating a portrait that lets them see the beauty I saw in them all along. That part never gets old.

So, for Labor Day, here are just a few of the hardworking people I’ve had the privilege of putting in front of my camera. ❤️

I’ve had hundreds of sessions since I was last active on social media, so I’m thankfully not short on content to share. I’m especially excited to share this one. ❤️

I photographed Vanessa’s mom, Evelyn, for her senior portraits years ago, and one of the images we created with peacock feathers became a photograph people remembered. For years afterward, I had other seniors ask if we could recreate “the peacock picture.”

So when it was Vanessa’s turn for senior pictures, of course we had to create a peacock portrait of her own. Evelyn and her mother, Carmen, came along for Vanessa’s session too, which made the day even more special. Carmen and her family owned La Finca, an iconic Mexican restaurant in Ashland that my family loved for years. It was one of my Dad’s favorites. She was so sweet to me about losing Dad, and getting to see her again meant more than she probably realized.

And the fact that these three women drove from Ashland to Lexington because they wanted me to photograph Vanessa’s senior portraits. After all these years, I don’t take that kind of loyalty for granted.

Since launching Pet Portrait Couture, several people have asked if I still offer professional pet photography.

Absolutely. ❤️ 🐾

One of the things I really love about Pet Portrait Couture is that you don’t need a professional photograph to have a custom piece of artwork created. A favorite phone snapshot can often be all I need.

But sometimes, what you want to preserve isn’t just what your pet looks like. It’s the relationship you share with them. And that’s where a professional portrait session can be something entirely different.

Over the years, I’ve photographed dogs, cats, and horses as part of senior sessions, family portraits, special occasions, and sessions created simply because someone loved their pet enough to want that relationship preserved.

They don’t always cooperate, and they rarely care about my plan. 😂 But those are often the sessions that give me some of my favorite photographs.

So yes, professional pet photography is absolutely still available through Stephanie Gilmore Photography, whether you’d like beautiful portraits of your pet alone, portraits of you together, or you’d simply like to include them in your family or senior session.

Because they’re never just the pet. They’re family. ❤️

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted here, nearly two years, in fact. But while this page has been quiet, Stephanie Gilmore Photography has remained very busy.

Life brought some losses along the way. After losing my dad and then my beloved Betsey earlier this year, social media just wasn’t a priority for me.

But through it all, I’ve continued photographing. Babies have grown, seniors have graduated, families have gathered, couples have gotten engaged, and business professionals throughout Central Kentucky have stepped in front of my camera for headshots and marketing imagery. I’ve had the privilege of continuing to preserve milestones, tell stories, and help people put their best face forward, both personally and professionally.

I’ve also been creating something completely new. Some of you have already discovered Pet Portrait Couture, my new collection of custom artwork celebrating the animals we love so much. It’s been such a fun and meaningful creative outlet for me, and I may share a little of that here from time to time, too.

But today, it feels especially fitting to bring this page back to life with something very close to my heart. Last week, I photographed the engagement session of my first baby, Carlyle, and her fiancé, Cody. I’ve photographed Carlyle more times than I could ever count. She was my very first subject, long before Stephanie Gilmore Photography officially existed. Seeing her through my camera this time, with the man she’s going to marry, was special. ❤️

So yes, Stephanie Gilmore Photography is still very much here, still thriving, and still doing what I’ve loved doing since 2002, creating beautiful photographs for the people who trust me with their most important moments.
