Long Island Training Day is September 27, 9:30 AM–2:30 PM, at Nassau County Fire Service Academy.

Participants rotate through four instructor-led stations: nozzle tactics and forcible entry, master stream operations from transitional to interior attack, modern nozzle application and hydraulic ventilation, and reading fire behavior through thermal imaging. Every evolution is built to translate directly back to your own department's operations.

Twenty years ago today, our company lost four employees—Bobby Meaux, Erik Harris, Priscilla Johnson, and Cecile Moscoe—in the crash of Comair Flight 5191 at Blue Grass Airport. Bobby, Erik, and Cecile were on their way to New Orleans to deliver uniforms to police officers working in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

They were going to serve those who serve others—the very heart of what we do.

We hold their families and everyone who knew them in our thoughts today.

Retired FDNY firefighter Tim Brown spent years carrying survivor's guilt after September 11th—the day he lost close to 100 friends and colleagues.

His first book, The Greatest Love, out today, is what he learned getting through it: how to recognize burnout before it takes you down, how to ask for support without seeing it as weakness, and how to rebuild a sense of control one small step at a time.

In his own words: "Today is the day I become a first-time author. I never thought I'd see this day." He credits the mentorship of Navy SEAL Jason Redman for helping him get there.
