Congratulations to our Film Spotlight Winner for the month of July, Kailey Courtney!

Kailey started photography in the creative arts program at Bucks County Technical High School. She became interested in fashion photography by rewatching America’s next top model during Covid and has been honing her craft ever since. What keeps her going is the chase. She is always craving to work with others and create something special! When it comes to shooting film, she primarily uses her trusted Canon Rebel 2000 & film of choice, Kodak Portra 400 because of its unbeatable colors. Kailey enjoys shooting film for personal projects when she can put her time and energy into being slow and present in the moment. She really loves large format 4x5 film because that is when you are the most in the moment - there is no wiggle room for mistakes!

World Photography Day is Wednesday, August 19!

Why August 19? The date recognizes the daguerreotype, an early practical photographic process developed by Louis Daguerre. On August 19, 1839, the French government made the process “free to the world.”

The daguerreotype didn’t use film. Instead, a silver-coated copper plate was exposed inside a camera and chemically processed to reveal the image. There was no negative, each photograph was one of a kind.

Today, World Photography Day celebrates photographers, creativity, storytelling, and the documentation of everyday life.

And we want to see the world through your lens.
