“I’m a BRCA II previvor. My mom passed from breast cancer when I was 17, and both maternal aunts and grandmother were also diagnosed. When 40, I found out I carry the BRCA II gene, which gives me an 85% chance of developing breast cancer. I had my breasts removed then reconstructive surgery. I’m so thankful, because my doctor found precancerous cells in the removed tissue. I am so fortunate I listened to God’s direction. Through this I learned to be my own advocate, the importance of supporting others, and being a non-judgmental friend. I want to be an open book and show women it’s possible to get through this and come out stronger. Sharing our stories can be powerful.”
