Under Their Watch

Susie Q Ranch, Picabo, Idaho
July 9, 2026

By day, the cottonwoods offer shade. By night, they become silhouettes against a sky that has watched over this valley for countless generations.

The barn, the fields, the fences, and the trees each tell a different story, yet together they speak of something larger than themselves—a place where work, family, and the rhythms of the land have quietly endured.

Some places don’t simply exist. They keep watch over the lives lived within them. Astro modified at Spencer's Camera & Photo

Real people. Real night sky. Real memories.

There is something unforgettable about standing beneath the Milky Way with the people you love.

Come spend an evening under one of the darkest skies in the West. We’ll laugh, watch for shooting stars, and create a portrait you’ll never be able to take during the day.

Every portrait is photographed outdoors beneath the actual night sky. Using specialized night photography techniques, I capture both your family and the incredible beauty overhead—creating an image that reflects the experience we shared together.

If you’ve ever dreamed of having your own portrait beneath the stars, I’d love to help make it happen. Send me a message, and let’s plan an unforgettable evening. ❤️

When the Day Grew Quiet

Mirror Lake, Uinta Mountains
July 17, 2026

As the sun slipped behind the mountains, the wind settled and Mirror Lake became still enough to hold the evening sky.

There was no dramatic finale—only quiet light, soft reflections, and the unhurried close of another day.

Perhaps not every ending needs applause. Some simply invite us to notice the beauty that has been there all along. At the end of today, what will you be most thankful for?

Ancient Witnesses

Long before roads reached these mountains, these trees were already lifting their branches toward the night sky.

Season after season, storm after storm, they have stood quietly beneath the same stars. They do not hurry. They do not compete. They simply remain, reminding us that endurance is often quieter than achievement.

Perhaps the oldest things in our lives have the most to teach—if we’re willing to stand still long enough to listen.

What place has reminded you that the world is bigger than your worries?

Forged

Above the Susie Q Ranch, Picabo, Idaho
July 9, 2026

Long before fences divided fields or families settled this valley, fire pushed this mountain from deep within the earth.

The violence ended.

The stone remained.

Now, beneath the quiet sweep of the Milky Way, it stands as a reminder that the greatest strength is often born through tremendous pressure.

Some things are not merely weathered by time.

They are forged by it.

What challenge in your life became the foundation of your strength?

A Place to Stand

Susie Q Ranch, Picabo, Idaho
July 9, 2026

This cabin was nearly lost.

Instead of disappearing, it was carefully moved to the Susie Q Ranch and given a new purpose. Today it stands beneath towering cottonwoods, surrounded by green fields and open sky, continuing to serve in a different way than its builders could have imagined.

Some things don’t need to remain exactly as they were to keep their value.

Sometimes new purpose begins the moment someone decides something is still worth saving.

What has someone preserved that you’re grateful still exists today?

The Sky Below

Some places ask us to look up. Others remind us to look down as well.

For a few quiet moments, Mirror Lake held two heavens—one stretching endlessly above, the other resting gently on the water’s surface. Neither competed with the other. Together they invited stillness.

Perhaps peace is found not by escaping the world, but by seeing it clearly enough to recognize that beauty has been surrounding us all along.

Where do you go when your soul needs quiet? This picture was taken with the and the while the sky was tracked with the Nomad.

The Wheel Still Turns

Susie Q Ranch, Picabo, Idaho
July 9, 2026

This irrigation wheel no longer carries water across the pasture. Its work ended.

Yet beyond its silent frame, cattle continue to graze beneath the same stars that have watched over every season before them.

Machines fail.

Fields change.

Generations pass.

But life finds another way to keep moving.

Sometimes the wheel stops.

The world does not.

When one chapter of your life ended, what continued that you didn't expect?

What Remains
Susie Q Ranch, Picabo, Idaho
July 9, 2026

No one placed this antler on the fence. A bull elk caught it here years ago while following an ancient instinct as it shed the weight of one season to begin another. The fence held on long after the elk disappeared into the mountains.

Ranches remember things.

They remember the hands that built them, the horses that worked them, the harvests that filled their bins, and even the wildlife that passed quietly through. Beneath the summer Milky Way, the antler has become another page in that memory—a small reminder that every season leaves something behind.

What has life asked you to leave behind so that something new could begin

Last Ride

Susie Q Ranch, Picabo, Idaho
July 9, 2026

No one knows how many miles this old saddle traveled or whose hands lifted it onto waiting horses over the years. Weathered by sun, wind, and seasons, it now rests quietly on a ranch fence, its work complete.

Above it, the Milky Way continues a journey that began long before the first rider crossed this valley and will continue long after every trail has faded.

Some journeys end.

Others simply remind us how small—and how meaningful—our own have been.
