How I almost died today. I had to make a trip to western NC to pick up some hurricane supplies and bring them back to the cache this morning. On my way back, I was westbound on I-26 and a vehicle traveling eastbound in Johnson City went off the road into the center median and ran into the central barrier which was a wire cable type supported by those T-post stakes. I was in the passing lane and this happened about 100 yards in front of me so needless to say I had zero time to react. The post I’m holding in the first pic missed coming through the cab into my head by about 8” it weighs about 30lbs. I wouldn’t have suffered at all but wouldn’t have a head either. And that was the third time I almost got killed by another motorist today! 😂😂 I’m drinking a big glass of Eagle Rare in celebration of life tonight!

I’d been planning this photo of Double Arch with the setting full moon behind it for over two years now and Saturday was the morning. Unfortunately Mother Nature had other plans. There were too many clouds so I never even saw the moon. I knew it was a long shot to begin with when I woke up but I was still bummed out. I was starting to pack up when I noticed a little rain shaft heading my way. I knew it was another long shot but knew the angle of the sun would line up perfectly if it peeked out while the rain approached. Luckily I had about 45 seconds of sun that made this nice rainbow pop out. There was a faint full rainbow that filled the whole valley as well. It was quite the sight for less than a minute. Hope y’all enjoy!

I only was able to get out a handful of times so far this fall due to starting a new job, which meant no morning shots so far. I was lucky enough to manage to grab this shot last night though. It was pretty crazy how pink and orange the sunset made everything. Hope y’all enjoy!

Better late than never. and I made a quick trip out west in January to escape the real world and the cold for a bit. Although we spent most of the time driving we managed to have a few rad adventures and saw some cool things too. We got to watch a sunset at which was pretty spectacular. Be sure to make a trip here if you’re traveling in southern AZ at some point. Well worth it.

I was looking through some images from last year. I realized I only shared one image from the Black Canyon. I made multiple trips in a matter of weeks from my home base in Rifle. It was a lot of driving but I was so enamored with this place that I didn’t mind it.

I’m already missing those fall colors. There’s a pond at the bottom of this valley. I really hope I get a chance to snap some photos from the shore next fall. I went out to this overlook for three sunrises and sunsets in a row a few weeks ago and this managed to be the winner for the year.

A solo Red Maple(Acer rubrum) blanketed the forest floor with its falling leaves, creating a surreal experience in the early morning light a few weeks ago. I struggled to properly capture this scene and actually went back a few times to try. Although I’m not completely happy with the results I still thought I’d share.

I went out to Natural Bridge SP last week having a feeling that the sunrise was going to have potential to be a good one. I got up to the overlook early and set up. There was a really awesome display that unfolded in the eastern part of the sky but I wanted one in the west and it didn’t seem like it was going to ever come about as the clouds were moving in quickly. The eastern display finally stopped and I was losing hope quickly and about to pack up but then for about 45 seconds the clouds opened up enough to illuminate the western part like I had hoped. Then it disappeared just as quickly as it appeared. I managed to grab a few images though!
