Even before covid struck, our team at Groton Senior Center began this Portraits of Life ~ Honoring Legacies project. Our objective ~ to honor these wonderful people for all they are. To acknowledge that they are still the amazing persons they each have been their entire lives. We want others to see the true person and not the heartbreaking disease. We also want others to know that dementia effects anyone. We see you caretakers and loved ones who struggle~ let us help you. There is nothing to be ashamed of.

We each had our parts to make this all come to fruition ~ my part was to take the photographs of these remarkable persons. I can only attest to how this project affected me~ The models and their families involved touched my soul deeper than I can express. A lot of smiles and sweet moments were shared. There were also times, I teared up after I got back to my car. Dementia and Alzheimer’s is no stranger in my life and perhaps that is why it meant so much to me to do right by our models and their families. I did exhale this morning as we held an intimate reveal gathering for our honorees. So glad our honorees & their families were pleased with the portraits.

Took our own “school photo” since Lifetouch once again underwhelmed us by what they produced. The school photographer somehow did not notice the shirt (hanger) strap that was blatant in the photo of her. smh 🤦‍♀️
