Ready to Rise

Something has their attention.

A pair of Northern Pintails stand alert among the reeds, watching and listening. They haven’t taken flight yet, but their posture says they’re ready—the kind of moment when you know those wings could open at any second.

Sometimes the anticipation is just as interesting as the action.

A pair of Blue-winged Teal moving together across an open sky. I’ve always enjoyed photographing waterfowl in flight, but catching two birds in the frame—with different wing positions and both showing their markings—makes the moment a little more special.
Sometimes the simplest background is all you need. It lets the birds and the motion tell the story.

Caught Yellow-Headed
Sometimes you can tell exactly where a hummingbird has been. This little Ruby-throated Hummingbird came away from the flowers with a head full of pollen — carrying a little evidence from one bloom to the next.
