The Great Crested Flycatcher is a cavity nester using old woodpecker cavities or natural cavities in trees, and bird houses. I have a pair nesting in a maple tree and other birds can come near but if a woodpecker is close the male is quick to drive it off.

Usually a bird of the forest floor and feeds scratching in the leaves searching for food. This is one of the few times I have been able to catch one in the open and off the ground. See more like this at my website:

Wood thrush is probably one of the most melodious songs in the forest almost flute like. I normally associate this species with hardwood forests but this individual was in my yard adjacent to what was once a field but after years of unattended growth it now harbors new species which I have never recorded on my property.

Nature and photography have interested me since I was young. I was inspired after reading a book, by G. Ron Austing called ' I Went to the Woods'. His story of falconry, raptors and nature photography is still on my bookshelf today. Over the years I have photographed a diversity of subjects but bird photography is my passion. Living in Louisiana allows me to photograph a diverse population of birds as my subjects. My images have been published on several calendars, magazine and books, to include the Tennessee Conservationist, American Birding Association, Birding Guide to Louisiana, Louisiana Conservationist calendar, Petersons' Guide to Woodpeckers and Bird Watchers Digest . I have donated several images to graduate students for there presentations and various other organizations. Every day in the field is a learning experience and I feel very fortunate to be able to enjoy the natural world. I look forward to sharing my insights into the world of nature with you. ...

We have this beautiful set of song birds available at Treasure Chest. They are matted in a unique linen textured mat. These would make a perfect collage or would even be beautiful featured alone. Happy to see this page.
Thank you so much , as they are birds we in Australia would never see , wonderful photography cheers # #
Love this page, Jim.
Incredible Jim. Your work is absolutely amazing.
Jim, your birds are the most awesome I have seen. My grandfather used to take my family for a Sunday ride and he would say "hear that? It's a Cardinal (or whatever it was). That fascinated me and now I find myself in the woods listening and looking for birds. The color you capture is out of this world. Some day I hope to be that good.
Very nice.
