Returning to photography after nearly 4 years off has been so many things: Challenging. Rewarding. Blessed. And certainly clarifying.

When I left photography, I didn’t really know what my brand was. I thought branding was more about colors and fonts. I didn’t have a clear “why”. Why was I doing this outside of making money? I knew I cared a lot about body positivity but beyond that I wasn’t sure.

Fast forward 4 years and I’ve found my why. I noticed myself drawn to the cinematic photography style of posing/prompting, I invested in education on family photography, I rediscovered my love for reading and I realized I don’t just want to take people’s pictures. I want to document the season they are in. I want to show who they are. I want to tell their story, one chapter at a time.

This shoot with the Robles family really showcases my why and who I am becoming as a photographer. I’m very proud to (over)share it with you.

The chapter of life you’re in now is so much shorter than you realize. Whether it’s beautiful, difficult, heartbreaking, bittersweet, confusing, or bursting with joy, it has value. Live it. Be fully present in it. Take your gratitude, you questions, your anger to the Lord. And if you can, PLEASE hire a photographer to document it.

Photo shoots are chapters of your life written in golden hues, stolen kisses before the toddler runs up and grabs your legs, and cool rocks found on the walk back to your car. They’re books you can open when your kids are grown or a loved one is no longer with you. They take you back to a time you can no longer access in body but is still available to visit in your memory.

Today as I'm working on continuing my photography education I hear my son say from the other room, "I liked that video. I want to learn to take pictures so I can take pictures with my blue camera." To which his Daddy responded, "Mommy would LOVE to teach you how to take pictures. But first she needs to learn so she can teach you." This exchange took place after my little guy watched editing videos with me this morning. The whole thing was just so precious I had to share it with you guys!

How it feels when you and your Mom get to graduate on the same day! 😎🥰

This shoot is special to me for a couple reasons:

1. The lovely model is my Aunt Tia
She was the fun
aunt growing up. I remember her being my favorite babysitter as a child because she would bring along puppets and put on shows for me. She's still the life of the party and can't help but bring a vivacious energy everywhere she goes.

2. She lives in another state and was on a short trip to visit and help family. She had no intention of doing a photoshoot this day, but when I asked if she would model she said yes! She used the clothes she already had with her and the paints she carries in her car (I did supply a couple more brushes and a canvas).

Why is the second point important? Because she didn't wait until the PERFECT time to do photos. She just did them as she is RIGHT NOW. And I love that. It's a big part of my brand. I want my clients to know that they don't have to have the perfect clothing, the "perfect body" (whatever the heck that is), the perfectly well behaved kids, the perfect schedule, the perfect season of life to have beautiful photos. Every season of your life has beauty and is worth documenting.

If you've been waiting for someone to give you permission to book a shoot (even if it's not with me!) allow me to be that person. Friend, it's time.

P.S. That adorable tat you see Tia pretending to paint in the second to last picture? Yeah, she actually DID paint that. Her tattoo artist recreated it excellently. I love it!

Alexa and Zaid’s maternity session was straight fire!!! 🔥🔥🔥 And not just because it was 90 degrees that evening. 😅 The anticipation of your first child is such a unique time in your life. There’s such a real fear of the unknown, but also a confidence that you were made for this. A strong admiration of your partner that just knows they will be an incredible parent. An indescribable love for a child you’ve yet to see face to face but has already stolen your heart. With time and mom brain, our memories of this season begin to dull. But I hope when Alexa and Zaid look back at these the night after signing this little one up for Kindergarten, they remember what the felt in this season… how they felt for one another and their sweet baby.

I took my family out for location scouting and OH MY WORD. I am having a serious “I can’t believe I took these!” moment. I also can’t believe I get to do this for a job 😍 I still owe you guys my stepping out in faith and quitting my full time job story. And it’ll happen but I’d like to do it as a video so I’m not limited by a word count. ❤️
