For some reason my Instagram posts aren’t being published on my fb page. Here’s what I had to say about yesterday’s sad events in Cincinnati:

I took this photo 15 years ago of Fountain Square when first I moved to this city to study photography. I moved here not knowing anybody. It soon became my home. I love this city and the warm people who have welcomed me here, treating me as if I were one of their own family members. Today was a sad day in Cincinnati. Sadly we became part of a growing statistic of cities where mass violence and murder has occurred to innocent people who were just trying to live their lives. I love this city. I always will. We are stronger than the sin and hate that has perpetrated our society.

Jeremy Cowart is an amazing photographer. He is currently doing a project highlighting people who lost everything in the smoky mountains fire. Each story that he has presented has been heartbreaking. This one is heartbreaking in a different sense. First I can't imagine losing my family and all of my belongings but secondly I can't imagine losing my life's work.

This is my new friend Alex Ludden. He's a photographer and he's standing next to his Epson 9800 printer that burned in the fire. He lost two of them but more importantly he lost the vast majority of his life's work in the fire. It's a fresh reminder for all of us to back up our work remotely. I could lose any material possession but it would break me to lose all my work and devastating to lose my studio. I'm going to try and help Alex get some gear and get him back on his feet. Wow. 😢 I can't imagine photography being taken from me let alone dealing with that kind of pain on a daily basis. This is amazing. I'm so happy for James.
