Last month, I was in the right place at the right time to provide video support to the Tennessee Department of Transportation during the Inaugural Tennessee Drone Symposium at Middle Tennessee State University. I attended Day 1 of the symposium simply to network and stay up to date on developments in the drone industry… and ended up being asked to shoot footage of the field demonstrations on Day 2. This is a quick video the TDOT Communications team put together using some of that footage.

Today is a day of remembrance for our nation. A day to not only remember those lost in the attacks of 9/11, but also to remember that life and the safety we enjoy here in the U.S. can be interrupted at any moment. As someone who was on duty in the Pentagon that day, I will never forget.

Luckily, many Americans continue to mark the anniversary of 9/11 every year and ensure younger generations understand the significance of the date. Every year, the MTSU Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center organizes a 9/11 Remembrance ceremony and works with the MTSU ROTC detachment to place 2,977 U.S. flags on the Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) lawn. This is one of a series of photos I took during the flag placement a few years ago.

May we never forget.

It was an honor to be able to provide drone support for Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority during their triennial disaster response exercise at Nashville International Airport a few weeks ago.

A special thanks to Kevin Corns Ph.D. for laying the groundwork for the Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) Unmanned Aircraft Systems program to be involved in this and for trusting us capstone students to fly at an active international airport.

Other than a couple of shots that were captured by another MTSU team that was providing exercise overwatch, I shot all of the aerial footage in this video, with the assistance of Chase Truett. All of the ground-based footage was captured by a separate, contracted videographer who also edited this video together.

As I get ready to graduate in a couple of weeks, I look forward to future opportunities to develop my aerial cinematography skills and continue to create imagery that exceeds customer expectations.

Along with many others, I decided to try my hand at solar eclipse photography earlier this week. My teenage son and I packed up my truck and we drove four hours north along mostly back roads, through Tennessee and Kentucky, eventually settling in the corner of a secluded field outside of Eldorado, IL. I still have a lot to learn, but I’ll accept this for my first effort.

For the last few years, I've done a bit of camera work for various sporting events at Middle Tennessee State University, either as a long lens camera operator for Media Arts Productions' ESPN+ broadcasts or as a photographer for MTSU Sidelines. This semester, for my filmmaking capstone class, I decided to try blending my multi-cam video production, single-cam filmmaking and mirrorless photography skills and use my own gear to make a sports videography reel.

I ended up shooting footage at one game/match each of football, men's basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball and rugby. Then, rather than make one general sports reel, I decided to make one reel per sport. One note: I shot and edited all of this, but have not color-corrected it yet, as that's not my area of expertise.

Just because it's a rainy day doesn't mean hawks won't be out looking for a meal. This one caught a squirrel in my backyard today and proceeded to stand in the grass with it as the rain continued to fall. Luckily it stayed long enough for me to grab my camera, step outside and snap this one pic.

The Worm Moon, just after moonrise on March 7, 2023.

The March full moon is known as the Worm Moon, as it signifies the time of year when the ground begins to thaw and earthworms begin to emerge, which in turn attracts birds, a key symbol of the coming of Spring.
