📸✨ Step Back in Time at the Hannaway Covered Bridge! ✨📸

Tucked away near Lancaster in Fairfield County, Ohio, the historic Hannaway Covered Bridge—also spelled Hanaway—has been carrying travelers across Clear Creek for well over a century. Built around 1901–1904 to replace an earlier 1881 bridge, this 86-foot beauty still rests on its original cut-stone abutments. 🌉🍂

Its Multiple Kingpost truss and unusual single-side canopy made it both sturdy and practical—the opening helped drivers spot oncoming traffic before entering.

Today, the bridge stands in Two Glaciers Park as a charming reminder of Ohio’s past and a picture-perfect subject in every season. ❤️

🐾 RESCUE MONDAY 🐾

That’s right … It’s time for another Rescue Monday and this week’s cutie-patootie is Mazie, from Save The Animals Foundation-Cincinnati (STAF)!

Mazie is so adorable 😍 … And so sweet 🩷 … And so loving 🥰 … She just needs to find a quiet, calm home 🏡 … And really, who doesn’t want that! 🤷‍♀️ You know what I’m talking about … Hanging out … Watching TV 📺 … Reading a book📖 … With this cutie hanging out with you! 🐕

Mazie's Story

Mazie is a 6-year-old hound/shepherd mix weighing just over 50 pounds, with a heart full of love for her people. She was returned after her previous home proved to be too active for her needs, (there were lots of visitors coming and going which proved to be too much for Mazie), and now she’s hoping to find a home that truly understands her desire for a quiet, calm environment. Mazie is sweet as can be and absolutely adores her humans—once she bonds with you, she loves hard. She enjoys attending daycare and does well there, showing off her affectionate and gentle nature.

Mazie is able to jump a 6-foot fence, so a home with a 7-foot fence or higher would be preferred but not required. She will need close monitoring in the yard because of her fence climbing skills!

She has been calm and settled since arriving with us. In her previous home, she experienced some separation anxiety. A family committed to continuing her progress, with patience and consistency, will be key to helping her thrive and feel secure. Mazie has adjusted well and has shown us just how sweet and calm she can be once she knows and trusts you. She has quickly become a volunteer favorite. A home with no children would be best for our sweet Mazie.

Mazie is looking for a patient, loving adopter who will give her structure, reassurance, and plenty of affection in return. If you’re searching for a loyal companion who will be deeply devoted to you, Mazie just might be your girl.

🌎 Indigenous Peoples’ Day 🌎

Today, we take a moment to honor the Indigenous peoples who have called the Americas home since time immemorial—celebrating their rich histories, cultures, traditions, contributions, and incredible resilience.

For me, this day carries a extra meaning. I have family who are Lakota Sioux, and I believe recognizing and respecting Indigenous history is an important part of understanding the story of this country we love to explore and photograph. ❤️

Indigenous cultures and communities are not simply part of our history—they are living, thriving, and continuing to shape our country today.

Today is an opportunity to listen, learn, honor Indigenous voices, and recognize the strength and perseverance of Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities.

There is room to acknowledge history while choosing to celebrate the people, cultures, and traditions that continue to endure.

Today, we celebrate Indigenous peoples. We honor their past, respect their present, and recognize their future. ❤️🌎

📸 A little break from our usual Frame It Friday …

I’m thinking about making another Best Buddy Photography calendar! 🎉

And this year’s theme is probably no surprise to anyone who knows me…

🌾 OLD BARNS. 🌾

Yep. The old, weathered, forgotten ones that make me stop the car, grab my camera, and say, “Ohhhhhh… look at THAT one!” 😂❤️

Instead of making you scroll through 12 individual photos, I put together a collage so you can see all of the photos that would be in the calendar at once. I also included a photo of what the individual months will look like.

It will be the same standard-size calendar as last year, and the price will stay the same at $25. 📅

And before I order a bunch of them and end up with a calendar warehouse in my living room… 😂😂😂

I’d love to get an idea of how many people might be interested FIRST.

🌉 A BRIDGE WITH A PRETTY BIG STORY! 🌉

There’s something about a covered bridge that makes you slow down and wonder… Who crossed this bridge before me? What stories could these old timbers tell? ❤️

Today’s stop was the Martinsville Road Covered Bridge in Clinton County, Ohio — and this little 72-foot bridge has a BIG history!

Built in 1871 by local craftsman Zimri Wall, this bridge was constructed just ONE year before Wall teamed up with his brother Jonathan and Albert Bailey to form the Champion Bridge Company in nearby Wilmington.

And here’s the really cool part… 👀

🏗️ The Champion Bridge Company considers this bridge its first and oldest surviving work!

That alone makes this bridge pretty special, but there’s more…

Ohio once had more than 3,500 covered bridges. Today, only about 125 remain. And this one holds another distinction: it is the last remaining historic covered bridge located entirely within Clinton County. ❤️

The Martinsville Road Covered Bridge spans the East Fork of Todd’s Fork, a tributary of the Little Miami River, and its beautiful multiple kingpost truss design is a wonderful reminder of the craftsmanship that went into these bridges nearly 155 years ago.

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, underwent a major rehabilitation in 2006, and — incredibly — it’s still open to local, single-lane traffic today!

🚗 So yes… people are still driving across a bridge built in 1871. How cool is THAT?!

And of course, we had to stop and photograph it. 📸💙

Another piece of Ohio’s history preserved — one old bridge at a time.

🐾RESCUE MONDAY 🐾

Yep … It’s time once again for Rescue Monday! And today’s cutie is ….. David Bowie … or DB for short 😊 ……from Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue .

So, I have to be SUPER honest on this one …. I absolutely LOVE older dogs ❤️… Years ago, Mike and I even adopted a 13-year-old Chow-Chow … That’s how much I absolutely love an older dog and David Bowie is no exception! 🥰

That face … The greying muzzle … I mean c’mon … How can you not love him! 😍 He’s house-trained, 🏡 loves going on walks, 🚶‍♀️just wants to cozy up with you …. If that just doesn’t make your heart melt I don’t what would. 😊❤️

🌉 Covered Bridge #17! 🌉

And this one has a pretty cool story… because sometimes you have to move a bridge to save a bridge! 😉

The Historic Glen Helen Covered Bridge, also known as the Cemetery Road Covered Bridge, was built way back in 1886 in New Burlington, Ohio. 🕰️🌲

Fast forward nearly 90 years, and the old girl was facing destruction because of construction for Caesar Creek State Park. Rather than let her disappear, she was carefully relocated to Glen Helen Nature Preserve in 1975, where she still stands today. ❤️

This little Howe truss beauty crosses Yellow Springs Creek and is tucked away among the woods, trails, waterfalls and all the other natural beauty that makes Glen Helen such a special place. 🌳💦🥾

Today, the bridge is open to foot traffic only—so no cars, just people, cameras and probably a few happy dogs. 😂📸🐾

And yes… like many old covered bridges, this one has had its share of graffiti over the years. Volunteers and preservationists have worked to clean it up and protect this piece of Ohio history so it can keep telling its story for years to come. ❤️

I think there’s something pretty special about an old bridge that has literally been given a second life. 🥰

And with that, our covered bridge count is officially…

That face … Those eyes … That big, ol’ lug of a dog …. Could he be any cuter! 😍 Yes, he’s a little on the big side at 120 pounds but who cares … He’s absolutely adorable and the sweetest dude around! 🥰

Meet Oberon - Our sweet gentle giant

Oberon is a big, sweet guy with an even bigger heart! This 4-year-old Great Pyrenees/Bernard mix weighs around 120 pounds and has a calm, easygoing personality.

Oberon came to STAF after his farm home was no longer working out for him. He previously lived with both dogs and cats, so he has experience sharing his space with other animals. If his new home has cats, we’d still recommend slow, thoughtful introductions to make sure everyone is comfortable.

Despite his size, Oberon is a pretty laid-back guy. He loves getting attention and being petted, and he’ll happily play with a ball for a while when he’s in the mood. Then he’s perfectly content to settle back down and enjoy some company. He is a little more hesitant with items and people, but comes out of his shell once he’s more comfortable.

If you’re looking for a gentle giant who would rather hang out with his people than be the center of attention, Oberon might just be your perfect match!
