Before the city fully wakes up, nature already has a story to tell.

This morning reminded me that documentaries aren’t only built in interviews, timelines, or camera setups. Sometimes they begin in silence — in the sound of birds before traffic, the movement of wind through trees, and the quiet moments where you can actually hear yourself think.

Walking through nature early in the morning felt like a reminder of why I fell in love with documentary storytelling in the first place. Real stories live in ordinary moments. In people. In environments. In emotions that can’t be staged or recreated.

As filmmakers, we spend so much time chasing the next project, the next deadline, the next shot list, that we forget how important it is to slow down and observe the world around us. Observation is part of the craft. Listening is part of the craft. Feeling connected to humanity is part of the craft.

Every documentary starts with perspective.
And sometimes perspective is found on a quiet walk before sunrise.
