Five years ago, I took the very first picture with my camera. Soon after, I photographed my very first event my moms funeral.
My photography journey didn’t begin because I wanted to start a business. It began because of loss.
When my mom passed away, I found myself searching through every photo I could find for her memorial. I wanted enough pictures to tell the story of her life, but no matter how many I found, it never felt like enough.
There were so many moments where she wasn’t in the pictures. Not because she wasn’t there—but because she was the one working, sacrificing, and taking care of all of us. She was behind the scenes as much as she could just making sure everyone else was taken care of before herself.
Standing at her viewing, surrounded by the photos we had, I realized how quickly life can change. One day someone is here, and the next, they’re gone. You’re left wishing you had just one more picture, one more memory frozen in time, one more moment to look back on.
That experience changed me forever.
It made me realize that photographs are so much more than pictures. They become memories, stories, and pieces of the people we love when they’re no longer here.
Tomorrow marks five years since my mom passed away.
It also marks five years since I picked up a camera and began this journey.
Every session is a reminder that photographs are more than just images—they’re memories, stories, and little pieces of our lives that we get to hold onto forever.
Life is precious. Take the pictures. Get in the frame. Hug your people a little tighter.
