Inspiration for all you Martial Artists that are getting on in age and feel you are to old now to work out anymore because you are in your 60s or more. The gentleman pictured here is Virgil Sioco a 6th degree Black Belt. He works out at American Karate & Self Defense in Dallas own by Mr. Ray Gomez.

Mr. Sioco is 90 years old in this photo taken in 2013. Sadly he passed away last Saturday at the age of 91. Mr. Gomez tells me that Mr. Sioco had worked out last Monday and Wednesday but suffered a heart attack on Friday. Still doctors expected him to fully recover but he had another heart attack on Saturday.

In 2013 he had a heart stress test and the doctor had told him that he had the heart of a 65 year old man at the age of 90. Not bad.

I did not know Mr. Sioco very well as I only got to talk with him each year when I came to Dallas to photograph Mr. Gomez's students at his school.

But I found Mr. Sioco to be one of the nicest gentleman I've ever met. I would have loved to had more time to just set and talk with him about the past in Martial Arts and life in general. I'm sure he has seen a lot of changes in his lifetime.

He will be sorely missed by myself and all that knew him at the school.

So the next time you feel you are to old to still work out remember
Mr. Sioco working out twice a week at age 91. If he can do it than so can you at a much younger age. It just takes heart. And he had a big one.

I believe his life of training in the Martial Arts got him to 91 years of age.

Rest In Peace Mr. Sioco.
