What does your family actually DO together?

Play cards or board games? 🎲
Shoot some hoops? 🏀
Toss a football or Frisbee around?
Have dance parties?
Go for walks?
Play at the park?
Tease each other relentlessly? 😂

Bring some of that to your family session.

We'll absolutely get the beautiful everyone-together photos for the wall.

But I also want the photos of you doing the things you do together — laughing, playing, competing, being silly and forgetting about my camera for a little while.

I want the photos that look like your family being your family.

Those might just end up being your favorites. ❤️📸

A little something I want my clients to know.

There’s been a lot of conversation lately about photographers sharing images, particularly photos of children.

For me, it really comes down to something pretty simple: they’re your photographs, and sharing them publicly should be your choice.

When you book a session with Janice Crago Photography, you have the option to allow me to share your images or to tell me you’d rather I didn’t. When children are involved, that decision belongs to their parent or guardian.

And that choice isn’t permanent. If you originally gave me permission to share your child’s photographs and later change your mind, tell me. I’ll remove them from the places I control. You don’t owe me an explanation. You’re the parent, and you have every right to make that decision.

But I think something sometimes gets lost when we talk about children and privacy: Adults deserve that same respect.

My adult clients have the same choice. If you don’t want your photographs used on my website, page or in my marketing, you can absolutely say no. And if you once said yes and later decide you’re no longer comfortable with it, you can come back to me, too.

I love sharing my work. Of course I do! All photographers do! Photographs help future clients see what I do and imagine what their own session might look like.

But being able to market my business will never be more important to me than respecting the people who trust me to photograph them.

That’s not a new policy because of AI or social media.

That’s simply how I believe people should be treated. 💚

Sometimes you flip your hair.
Sometimes you blow bubbles.
Sometimes you actually clean something. 😂
And sometimes an unexpected kitten crashes your photo session. 🐱

Wildlife photography is something I do simply because I love it, so seeing one of my images pop up on Wildlife Prairie Park's page absolutely made my morning.

Thank you for saying, “Let’s Click!”

My Let’s Click! special has officially come to an end, and I just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who reached out, booked a session, shared a post, or cheered me on along the way.

Now comes my favorite part—the sessions!
I have sessions to plan, people to meet, and memories to create. I’m already looking forward to all of it!

Sometimes you just have to make the deal.

At the beginning of their family session, I promised these two darlings that we could take a picture with their baby doll at the end. They held me to it.

And would you LOOK at those smiles?!

Sometimes the best part of a session is making room for the things that matter to the little people in front of my camera—even when that means their very important baby doll gets her own place on the couch.

And yes... All three absolutely understood the assignment!

Real conversation at a recent photo shoot....

Me: Let’s have some fun and get started!
Her: I’m awkward in front of the camera.
Me, inside my head: Ha! Just wait until you hear what I’m about to make you do. 😂
Professional Photographer Me: Aw, don’t worry! We’ll have fun, I’ll help you along the way, and you’ll do great.

A little while later…

Me: Okay. I want you to channel every dramatic soap opera and TV entrance and exit you’ve EVER seen. I want drama. Diva. Hair flips. Give me EVERYTHING.
Her: Understood the assignment.
Me: YESSSSS. Keep going!
Her: 💃💁‍♀️✨

Me, looking through the images afterward: “Awkward,” huh?

Because what came through my lens was anything BUT awkward. It was confidence. Personality. Laughter. And genuine FUN.

Here’s the thing: You don't need to know how to pose before you come to a session with me. That’s part of my job.

I’ll give you direction. I’ll help with the little things. I’ll give you something to do instead of expecting you to magically know how to “be a model.”

And every once in a while, I may ask you to unleash your inner soap-opera diva. You just never know.
