I love racing a good sunset. We arrived just as golden hour was wrapping up and blue hour descended upon the rolling hills. Thankfully we were blessed with an incredible sky, and I got the bright (hehe I love puns) idea to bring my new strobe to use outside for the first time. Needless to say these lights are now a permanent fixture in my camera bag.

Did you know I used to be an artist? Before I ever picked up a camera, my first love was charcoal. I loved covering a page in black and then going back with an eraser to draw out the midtones and highlights. It was a beautiful chaos and it went against all my natural instincts to not be messy. When I transferred over to photography, my background in art prepared me with a knowledge of composition and light, all I had to do was learn how to fine tune my new tool.

There’s few things I love more than a good pool of light. You can choose to either embrace it and use this as a tool to highlight key features, and let the rest succumb to the shadows, or you can push against it with flash and create a more evenly lit moment to showcase an entire scene. It’s the same setting, with two very different emotions, and I think both are important yo capture.

Incase you were needing a reason to book your California coast session, here’s a really good one.
San Diego was where my husband and I went on our honeymoon, many years ago, so when the call came in to venture back for this gorgeous and steamy couples session, the answer was a an immediate “YES!”. Shockingly we had a relatively quiet beach, but even if there had been a thousand prying eyes, you’d never have known because they were in their own little world, as they looked into each others eyes.
I’m always down for a good destination session, so if you’ve been pondering where to go, I’m more than happy to help.

90s gothic glam needs to make a full comeback, because this makeup consumes my thoughts. I was raised on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I think Drusilla would rock either of these gowns as well. What do you think?

And just like that, she’s a college graduate. Wynnie is a familiar face around here, as not only is she one of my go-to models, but she’s been an assistant at too many sessions to count, and is also my incredible niece. Apparently I didn’t scare her out of the wedding industry, because she’s been interning with a planner and now hopes to embark on many more new adventures with event and wedding planning. She’s always a joy to be around, and I’m so blessed to be her Aunt.

When launched their concept of doing a boxing styled meetup, I was immediately intrigued. Fitness photography was way out of my wheelhouse, but they’re known for always bringing the fashion, and I knew this opportunity wouldn’t likely come up again. Every single model rolled up to set ready to work, with makeup and wardrobe off the charts. I utilize several elements of the gym, but this giant tire was a favorite.
