Can’t wait!

We are so excited for the first Downtown Huntington Art Walk of the Summer brought to you by Greater Huntington Park & Recreation District and Marshall University School of Art & Design! This Friday from 5PM to 8PM take part in a self-guided tour of the best local art Huntington has to offer!

The Art Walk will span from Heritage Station to The Market with artists to be found in-between, hosted in local businesses or set up as street-vendors. There will be way finders and maps available to identify participating businesses and pop-up exhibitions, with safe footpaths to get you from one exciting experience to the next! Finish the night with even more fun with the outdoor concert series, 9th St Live!

There will be a Downtown Huntington Art Walk on the third Friday of each month from May to August, 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Be sure and check out all of them, you'll see something different each time. 👀🎨🎸

So excited to be set up in front of Full Circle Gifts and Goods for Downtown Huntington Art Walk this Friday from 5-8! I’ll be doing a Polaroid Photo Booth ($10/photo) and selling prints and collage pieces! Come out for the fun!

The 2022 Appalachian Q***r Youth Summit was much more than just another photo assignment for Justin Murphy.

Justin, owner of Out of the Attic Photography in Huntington, had already been hired as the camp photographer. He didn’t hesitate when he was asked the night before camp if he would fill a dual role as camp counselor. Justin now says the experience was among the most rewarding things he has ever done.

“The impact that a camp like that would have had on me as a young q***r person would have made all the difference in the world,” he said. “Seeing the campers let down walls that they’re used to having as a means of survival when they were able to be around a group of people just like them was powerful. Looking at their faces and seeing how invested they all were in making the world better for the next generation filled me with a sense of hope the likes of which I’ve never felt.”

Being a kid is tough, but being a q***r kid in Appalachia can be its own kind of tough. That’s why ACLU-WV created the Summit, an immersive summer-camp experience for LGBTQ+ West Virginian teens who want to get involved in advocacy and activism.

Campers spend the week learning about how to influence policy. They meet LGBTQ+ community leaders and elected officials. They learn how to tell their own stories. And they also make time for canoe trips, friendship bracelets, s’mores and more. Perhaps most importantly, they find a place where they can be unapologetically themselves.

“All kids should be given the opportunity to grow up in an atmosphere that accepts them and wants them to thrive,” Justin said.
