“Studies have shown that Black patients are two to three times more likely to be hospitalized, need emergency surgery, and face more severe complications due to diverticulitis. My mom is one of them. Even though she followed every guideline: diet changes, lifestyle shifts, doctor’s appointments, labs, tests, surgeries — over a foot of her intestines have been removed. And after all that, a nurse stood in front of her and asked, “So what are YOU gonna do about the diverticulitis?” Like she hasn’t already done everything she possibly can, including laying on a table twice. Girl, please.”

Fully in her own rhythm.

No elaborate plan for this session. No script, no heavy direction. We allowed the moment to breathe. The light showed up and wrapped around her like it knew exactly where to fall.

She moved in her art, and I moved in mine. Two artists aligning without needing many words. That quiet trust made space for something honest.

Her spirit is genuine. Her innergy is inviting. She’s an artist I admire, and a woman stepping into this next chapter with grace and steady presence. .am.royalti, 30 looks good on you. Keep spreading your wings 🫶🏾
