🖤 In Loving Memory of D. Wayne Lukas 🖤
1935 – 2025
Today, we mourn the passing of a true titan in the world of horse racing—D. Wayne Lukas. A Hall of Famer, a trailblazer, and a legend whose impact on the sport is immeasurable. More than his 14 Triple Crown victories or the dozens of champions he trained, Lukas shaped generations of horsemen and women with his relentless work ethic, bold vision, and unwavering belief in greatness.
I was honored to capture him during one of his final shining moments in the winner’s circle—at the 2024 Pennsylvania Derby, celebrating the victory of Seize the Grey. His signature confidence, quiet pride, and unmistakable cowboy hat were all there as always.

And again, this past May at the 2025 Preakness, we witnessed his fire still burning—Seize the Grey made history once more, and Lukas was right there, calm and composed amidst the roar.

Wayne Lukas didn’t just train horses—he raised standards. He demanded excellence, and he gave this sport every ounce of himself.
Rest easy, Coach. You’ve saddled your last champion, but your legacy gallops on.
