What this session will help this family remember about these 2 under 2 days:

-baby girl's adorable and varied facial expressions
-how active little guy is
-how happy baby is to see her daddy
-how their son just hugs his mama with his whole self
-the simple joys of just being at a park together with your little ones and seeing their whole face delight in being swung

Having 2 kids under 2 means the days can be busy and long (and maybe a little chaotic!), and at the same time just so simple and sweet. I'm so glad this family will always have these photos to remember just how special these days are. 💗

Some people are lucky enough to have family live nearby, where they can see them as often as they'd like. Others, like me, have family that live out of state or even in another country. Either way, when everyone can manage to get together, all in one place, it is a joyous and momentous occasion! Extended family sessions are a wonderful way to preserve the special memories of these reunions! ​​​​​​​​

Upon booking, I will send you a Client Questionnaire, so that you can let me know your family's priorities for the photoshoot.

Examples of photos that we can take include

-group portraits (e.g. everyone, just girls, just boys)
-individual family units (parents and kids)
-same, but with the grandparents
-just grandchildren/cousins
-grandkids and grandparents/great grandparents
-aunts and/or uncles with nieces and nephews
-couple portraits
-the original family with the adult children
-adult siblings and
-individual photos of the kids.

I'll admit that I was a little nervous ahead of this family photoshoot with 3 older boys/teens. What do I talk about?!! How am I going to get them to actually smile and to smile genuinely?!! How am I going to get them to be "into" the photoshoot?!!

Well, I encouraged them to be themselves as much as possible and to interact like they usually do. (I provided some guidance and prompts along the way, too.) I'm happy (and relieved) to say that they were game! For example, I love this first photo! How could it not make the family smile whenever they see it? Your firstborn is taller than you, Dad! :P Also, it was fun to give each boy their own time to take some solo photos. I got to chat about their interests and activities, while I took some authentic portraits. Mom also wanted photos of each parent with each kid, so we did those, too.

In the end, we created a gallery together that I think will help them remember their family at this moment in time. Not just their beautiful smiles, but glimpses of personality, relationships, and what makes their family uniquely theirs.

I woke up to this amazing news in my email this week! Thank you for recognizing my photography and awarding me with 2nd place in the Portrait Category of their photo contest. I feel so honored, thrilled and thankful!! The kids are super happy, too!

A little about this photo: I took on a personal, daily photo project last summer to try and document some of my family’s own memories (kinda like my 2020 365 project). It started when the kids finished school for the summer. They were happy to be done for the year and looked forward to summer break. We wanted to celebrate school being out with a photo and voila…! Yes, those are their old workbook pages, lol. One last thing that I want to mention: that colorful art on the wall was created by my father-in-law!

Ahhhh, to be a senior again! All of those fun senior events with friends, plus prom, plus finally just finishing the whole high school experience! It's such an exciting time full of anticipation of the future. What it holds, what it brings. What it means. It is the start of independent adulthood and really taking charge of your own life. There is so much to celebrate and look forward to in the final year of high school. To all the grads out there, good luck on your exams and applications, and enjoy this special year!! The photos that really grab me in client galleries are the ones that I feel are completely unique to that family. Something about the photo that shows personality or a real glimpse into a relationship. I might’ve helped setup the situation or pose, but it’s the clients themselves that made this exact moment happen. Of course! I have a spot in each of my Client Questionnaires that asks if there are any specific photos that you would like. Photoshoots are special occasions (right?!!) and not an everyday occurrence, so I want to seize the opportunity to create photos together that are meaningful to you and your family.

Maybe there’s a specific prop that you would like to incorporate in a couple of photos.

Maybe there’s a photo when big sister was a newborn, and you want to try and recreate it with baby brother.

Maybe you want one photo where both dogs are in it with the family.

Maybe you want a photo of each parent with each of your 3 sons.

Maybe you want a few couples photos to celebrate an anniversary.

I’ve had all of the above requests!

“Do you leave the formation of memory to happenstance or do you decide to remember?” - Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, a book by Gabrielle Zevin

As a family photographer, this is one of my most favourite quotes about preserving memories. As a parent, you know that time flies by, and it goes even quicker when you have kids. You basically blink and they're another year older. You blink again, and another milestone has been reached.

How do you hold on to it? How do you hold onto all of the different moments and stages as they pass?

Do you just assume that you'll remember it? Do you just assume that you'll remember all of it? Or, do you decide to remember? Do you make a deliberate effort to document your cherished memories, instead of relying on something imperfect like our own memory?

Just some food for thought! And while you ponder it, reach out, so you don't miss creating some forever memories this fall! ✨
