From The Family:

Yesterday, May 7, 2024 Jeff lost his lengthy battle with melanoma.

Jeff was surrounded by his wife Deanna and daughters Kat, Mandy, & Sarah when he passed.

Thank you to everyone who has showered Jeff & co. with love and strength throughout this battle, we are forever grateful.

Details on a celebration of life to come soon — in the mean time, you can wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt and raise a glass of your favorite adult beverage in Jeff’s honor. (Feel free to share your favorite in the comments.).

If you would like to donate in his memory (in honor of Jeff’s love for all things nerdy) please visit

So long for now.....

After almost 20 years as a member of the Tamrom Tech Team, and even longer as part of the Tamron family from my time as an independent rep and working for Satter Distributing, the time has come to say goodbye.

Health issues have taken me a different direction and I need to concentrate on fighting cancer.

This has been a difficult decision because photography, teaching and inspiring others in photography are my passions.

I have had the privilege to work with and for some incredible individuals - the dealers, the customers, professional photographers, and other photo industry professionals. I have valued our time and adventures together.

I want to thank the rest of the Tamron Tech team, led by Ken Hubbard - Andre, Armando, Erica, Janet, Kristine, Damion, as well as those who have worked with us in the past. It's been an adventure to share the road with you all.

To all of our outstanding sales reps - too numerous to mention - who are out on the road making things happen: I enjoyed working, sharing meals and photo adventures with you all through all the events big and small over the years

Thanks to Stacie Errera, Vice-President of Marketing, Operations Director Pat Simonetti and Tamron President Gregg Maniaci for the opportunities and support throughout the years as well as the rest of the Tamron Americas family.

So for now, I'll sign off for for the last time as TamronTechJeff
Good luck in the future and good shooting!

Happy Holidays to all!
For over 100 years Denver has lit the City and County Building with festive holiday decor. Several years ago they switched from incandescent to LED lamps making photography easier as the LEDs are substantially brighter and true to color.
Take advantage of the holiday displays in your neighborhood or nearby commercial displays. Dress for the weather and get out after dark for some photo fun.

Remember when you're seeking that perfect shot, be careful and don't get in over your head. My car was called a Terrain and had 4 wheel drive, but I knew to turn back after just a few miles. Another sign warned that only vehicles with high ground clearance should proceed. It's not worth getting stranded. Love the late afternoon, blue hour light, but it's not a good time to test your - or your car's - abilities

Paraphrasing Talking Heads: you may find yourself in the desert at sunset without any clouds to create color. So you start looking for foreground subjects. A convenient Joshua Tree.

I’ve mentioned a time or three that I like to carry a camera and lens (or cameras and lenses) when my wife and I run errands - just in case. The camera doesn’t always come out from its hiding spot, but sometimes that ‘be prepared’ motto pays off – and today’s dinner run / raptor scouting mission worked out.

I decided to travel light, choosing a Sony body and Tamron’s nearly perfect all -purpose lens, the 50-400mm f4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD.

In beautiful late afternoon light, we called the audible to delay dinner and see if our neighbors might be interested in posing for a few photos. There’s a nesting pair of Bald Eagles near where we live, and a large group of eagles also winter near a local reservoir.

While the visting Eagles haven’t arrived in their usual place yet, (It may be a week or two early for them to arrive from Canada and Montana), the locals were still a possibility.

And as we cruised the county road, we found one of the pair perched on a tall roadside cottonwood, which is one of their favorite spots to observe the surrounding area for meals.

Just as we approached, the eagle spotted a potential meal and launched. Camera was ready, but eagles fly fast so I could only squeeze off a short burst of images. Fortunately, the camera/lens combo didn’t let me down.

So, today I present “An Eagle on an Errand.” Looking for dinner, just like us.
Exposure information: 1/2000sec., f6.3, ISO400 at 400mm.
