Marrakech saved its biggest surprise for the last night.

What started as an elegant dinner show quickly turned into one of the wildest evenings of the entire trip.

The night opened with traditional Moroccan music, belly dancers, and local performers. Then the energy kept building. Fire dancers. Acrobats flying above the crowd. African-inspired performances. Brazilian carnival vibes. Burlesque acts. Live singers. DJs. House music. Every time we thought the show was over, something even bigger appeared on stage.

The venue itself felt like a movie set, with performers emerging from every corner, suspended from the ceiling, dancing between the tables, and turning dinner into a full immersive experience.

By the end of the night, nobody was sitting anymore.

We came for dinner.

We stayed for the show.

And somehow ended up dancing until the very end.

A perfect way to close an unforgettable week in Marrakech. 🇲🇦✨

4:00 a.m. wake-up call. Worth every second.

Of all the incredible experiences during our week in Morocco, this may have been the highlight.

Before sunrise, we left the comfort of our hotel and headed into the quiet desert darkness. An hour later, standing beside a giant balloon as the burners roared to life, we knew this was going to be special.

Then came the moment.

As the sun slowly rose over the Moroccan landscape, dozens of hot air balloons lifted into the sky around us. Below, small villages, dry riverbeds, and endless desert scenery stretched as far as the eye could see. Above, nothing but silence, color, and one of the most beautiful sunrises I’ve ever witnessed.

What surprised me most wasn’t the view.

It was the peace.

No engines. No crowds. No notifications. Just the sound of the wind and a reminder of how small we are in this big world.

And yes, finishing the flight with a champagne toast at sunrise didn’t hurt either. 🥂

Sometimes the best memories start with a very early alarm clock.

Welcome to the Medina of Marrakech 🇲🇦

Step through one of its ancient gates and it’s like stepping back in time.

Founded nearly 1,000 years ago in the 11th century, the Medina of Marrakech is the historic heart of the city and has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. Behind its reddish-pink walls lies a maze of narrow alleyways, hidden courtyards, bustling souks, artisan workshops, cafés, and homes that have been part of daily life for generations.

What surprised me the most? How clean it is. With thousands of visitors walking through these streets every day, I expected chaos. Instead, I found a vibrant but surprisingly well-maintained old town where life unfolds much as it has for centuries.

As you wander through the Medina, every turn reveals something new: hand-painted ceramics, colorful textiles, traditional lanterns, spice merchants, leather workshops, and craftsmen practicing skills passed down from father to son for generations. It’s not an open-air museum—it’s a living city.

The region was also impacted by the devastating 2023 earthquake that struck Morocco. While some historic buildings suffered damage and restoration work continues in places, the resilience of the Moroccan people is evident everywhere. The Medina remains full of life, energy, and optimism.

These photos capture only a small glimpse of what makes Marrakech so special. The real magic is getting lost in the labyrinth, putting away the map, and letting the city reveal itself one alley at a time.

After our sunset camel ride through the Moroccan desert, the evening was just getting started.

We arrived at a beautiful desert camp tucked into the rocky landscapes just outside Marrakech. As the sun disappeared behind the hills, lanterns lit the pathways, a fire welcomed us, and the atmosphere transformed into something straight out of a movie.

Dinner was served in a stunning traditional pavilion overlooking the desert. The food kept coming, the wine was flowing, and before long the music started. A talented belly dancer took over the room, getting everyone clapping, laughing, and eventually dancing along. Let’s just say a few members of our group discovered hidden dance talents that night. 😅

What I loved most was the contrast. One moment we were riding camels through the silence of the desert, and a few hours later we were celebrating together under the Moroccan night sky.

These are the moments that make travel special. Not just the places, but the experiences and memories shared with people you may not have known very well only a few days earlier.

Morocco continues to surprise me every single day.

Behind the scenes of every travel photo… 📸

People often ask how I get so many photos when I travel solo.

Well… here’s one of my secrets. 😅

Meet the famous invisible stick.

While everyone is admiring the architecture, I’m usually trying to figure out where to place a camera, how to avoid the crowds, and how to make it look like someone else took the shot. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t. 😂

Travel content may look effortless on social media, but there’s usually a lot of trial and error happening behind the scenes.

This photo was taken by a colleague inside a beautiful Madrassa (old school) in Marrakech, and for once, I decided to show the reality of how many of those “perfect” travel photos actually happen.

No photographer.
No crew.
Just me, a camera, and the invisible stick.

🌕 in the Moroccan desert under the full moon.

One of those moments that wasn’t planned. While leaving dinner a colleague said: I see you doing your Yoga Pose here.

The desert was silent. The air was still warm from the day. Above us, a bright full moon illuminated the landscape while the lights of the camp disappeared into the distance.

As many of you know, no matter where I travel in the world, I always try to keep my fitness and yoga routine alive. Sometimes that means a gym. Sometimes it means a ship deck at sunrise. And sometimes… it means finding a quiet path in the middle of the Moroccan desert.

Travel isn’t just about seeing new places. It’s also about finding balance wherever life takes you.

Where is the most unusual place you’ve ever exercised or practiced yoga?

Sick in Marrakesh. 🤒🇲🇦

Well… that wasn’t on the itinerary.

I’ve traveled across seven continents, spent months at sea, visited over 50 countries, and honestly, I can’t remember the last time I got sick while traveling.

Yet here in Marrakesh, I spent about 24 hours dealing with nausea, stomach cramps, chills, and a very unhappy digestive system. The good news? It passed quickly (24h-36h), and I’m already feeling about 90% back to normal.

What surprised me most is that I wasn’t alone. A large number of my colleagues experienced similar symptoms during the week. Some recovered within a day, while others needed a few days to fully bounce back.

To be clear, we stayed in a beautiful high-end resort, ate at reputable restaurants, and participated in organized activities. Nothing adventurous, no street food challenges, and no questionable meals.

Sometimes travel simply reminds us that our bodies aren’t always accustomed to the same bacteria, food preparation methods, or water systems found in different parts of the world. It can happen even when you’re being careful.

If you’re planning a trip to Morocco, my suggestion isn’t to worry—it’s simply to be prepared. A quick conversation with a travel clinic before departure can be worthwhile, especially if you have a sensitive stomach or existing health concerns.

Thankfully, I’m back on my feet and ready to continue exploring. One rough day isn’t going to stop the adventure. 😉

Have you ever gotten sick while traveling abroad? If so, where did it happen?
