April Wilkens survived years of abuse, then killed her abuser. When Oklahoma passed a new law giving survivors like her a second chance, she filed a 400-page application. Her attorney called it 'the exact type of case' the law was made for. The judge denied it anyway. Why? Because the system still expects a 'perfect victim' – and even then, it might not be enough.
