Need help with what I assume are mites… I have a flock of 15 eight month old hens and one rooster, all who are losing feathers around their rear and back except the roo… This is the worst one and looks like she has an open wound. Is this from mites or something else? We are first time chicken keepers so this is all very new to me. We use a deep trench method for our open air coop, and have never had bug issues before. My husband noted that the hen had little black bugs on her while this picture was taken. Would love any advice!

We just got this coop from TS to start our chicken journey. Eventually we will add onto it I’m sure. But I’m curious for any of you who have this coop; how many exactly can fit comfortably in this coop/run. And did you change up the roosting bars since two of them go over the nesting boxes ** We haven’t finished setting up as our babies are still too little to go out there.
Pictures of your set up with this exact coop would be great!

I have never had a sick chicken before. My husband found one dead this morning and I came home to this one very limp inside the coop. It’s awake but it almost look like it has a broken neck. It won’t stand either.What would it be causing it! It was just fine yesterday. Any opinions? Any way I could help?

Has anyone else had a problem with one of raccoons sneaking in and getting shut in with their hens? I was SO thankful none of them had been harmed yet. I managed to knock him down so he ran away but he did not act afraid of me at all, just a little bothered that I was shouting and poking a stick in the rafters.

I have lost 20 chicks to something.
My first time in 4 years on this place.
My mind instantly went to raccoons, but I have not EVER seen one here.
The brooder opens at top, but no easy feat for any type of animal and the rest is hardware cloth.
These just got put in there yesterday.
Any ideas?
