There’s a big difference between having your picture taken and creating a portrait that actually feels like you at your best. ✨

It starts before the camera ever comes out. We talked through outfits 👗, played with possibilities, and gave her time to settle in with hair and makeup 💄. Because let’s be honest… most of us need a minute before we’re ready to have a camera pointed at us. 😂

Then comes the magic of having a team around you. ✨

Someone watching the details.
A visual artist noticing how you move, when you relax, where the light hits just right. 📸
Someone making you laugh when you start taking yourself too seriously. 😏
And someone in your corner reminding you that, yes—you really do look that good. 🙌

This is what happens when you travel with Ai Kubo.

Ai is an unstoppable yoga instructor who brings health and wellness to a whole new level. Her retreats aren’t just about hours on the mat. They’re about adventure, beautiful places, great food, connection, movement, and a seriously robust social life.

On our retreat in Amorgos, Greece, her warmth, generosity and energy brought all of us together—and somehow made a group of people from different corners of the world feel like old friends.

I was lucky enough to photograph the experience, from the quiet moments to the big adventures.

Today I’m featuring Alyssa, my health + fitness coach. She’s a phenomenal coach—deeply curious and full of knowledge about nutrition, health and workouts that actually work for my body.

When I’m photographing a team, I love capturing both sides of the story—the collective personality of the business AND the individual people who make it what it is.

Because your clients aren’t just connecting with your brand.
They’re connecting with you.

And that’s especially important for businesses where relationships, trust and personal connection are at the heart of the experience.

The team at Haus of Marin is such a great example. They have this wonderful dynamic—supportive, playful, always helping each other out, and genuinely invested in making their clients feel their absolute best.

That personality is part of their brand.

One of the things I hear from women all the time is, “I never know what to wear,” or “I’m just not good at getting my picture taken.”

Good news: you don’t have to be. 😊

A big part of what I do is help you feel completely prepared before we ever start shooting.

✨ We’ll talk through your goals and what you want your images to communicate.
✨ We’ll work together on styling and choosing the right clothing for your brand.
✨ And on shoot day, you’ll have a professional hair + makeup artist there to get you camera-ready and feeling amazing.

Then we take it from there.

Throwing it back to one of my favorite founder portraits. ✨

A while back, I photographed Janis— business owner, entrepreneur, and creative thinker—on the shoreline of Treasure Island with San Francisco stretching out behind her. 🌊🌉

The location felt like the perfect reflection of her energy: expansive, curious, and full of possibility.

Janis has oceans of experience and a uniquely creative approach to business. She’s someone who sees connections others might miss and brings fresh thinking to everything she touches. 💫

One year ago today, we said goodbye to my beautiful mom. ❤️

I’ve been ambling through old photos and feeling my heartstrings being pulled.

These photos show pieces of her—she was funny, had a great smile, loved reading, theater and water, was loving, kind, patient (four kids!), and endlessly curious. She was a woman who loved children, embraced adventure, created a rock-solid home and was always wondering what was around the next corner. ✨

She was always game for trying something new. In 2019, I had the chance to photograph her when she modeled for a home care organization—years before she ever needed that kind of support herself. We got her all coiffed and spent half a day creating images together- fun stuff! 💕

She lived with openness, tolerance, curiosity, and a genuine love for people, especially kids, and a great ear for listening.

I miss her every day. I’m grateful for the memories and stories, and photographs that help keep her close. 🤍

Some businesses can’t be fully captured in a studio. Their space is part of the story. ✨

I recently photographed an incredible healer, acupuncturist, and Chinese herbal medicine specialist in her own practice. Walking into her office, I immediately felt the care, intention, and wisdom woven into the space. 🌿

This is one of my favorite parts of brand photography—stepping into someone’s world and capturing not just what they do, but how they do it.

The details matter. The tools they use. The environment they’ve created. The feeling someone experiences when they walk through the door.

A strong brand image doesn’t just show a business owner. It gives people a glimpse into the experience of working with them. ✨
